Introduction
There are various aspects began to bloom in Hong Kong society. These aspects might
change into society ruled by communist party.
Several influences can be observed in the situation of Hong Kong. Most teenagers to
college students all have experienced and still experiencing that they can actually make a change
in Hong Kong. It began when the Scholarism group rallied 120,000 protesters to occupy the
Hong Kong government headquarters in order to withdraw the claimed curriculum which
showed pro-communist inclination in September 2012. Now the number of people in the
movement has increased and they are aiming bigger goal which is earning a true universal
suffrage from the Chinese government. The Umbrella Revolution was now formed to raise the
voice of democracy to defy officially Chinese government. Arrestingly, the age group shows the
firmest will is young people. It seems that students’ ultimate goal is to earn whole democracy as
he quoted the script of V for Vendetta. “The government should be afraid of their people.”
With the revolutionary movement, students’ action brough fresh impact on overall Hong
Kong society. Students became an ignition of fire by being arrested and released which draw
older people’s participation as a result. This impact was massive so much so the number of his
group member is about 300 students, it was nearly double, around 551 people were briefly
arrested when they staged a sit-in. Youth in Hong Kong acted premeditatedly and structurally yet
never crossed a line. It is likely easy to spot that young blood in protests apt to show more
violence than people with older age group, but they were calm and knew what kinds of action
would be accepted and elicit support from the community. As a result, When the youth group,
Scholarism presented a plan to reform Hong Kong’s election system, they earned the support of
one-third of voters in an unofficial citywide referendum.

Things must be considered for those who are working with youth in Hong Kong. As the
article shows it seems that people in Hong Kong tend to show a more collectivist mindset than in
western countries. If the Hong Kong society pursued individualism, many older people would
not support students whether they got beaten up or arrested. However, they did not look at
students’ activity with folded arms. Judging from this, it can be interpreted that Hong Kong
society has a strong tendency to pursue collectivism. Another thing is a high-power distance.
Students in protest could have made a decision to fight against the Chinese government when
they faced soldiers. But they showed respect by being peacefully retreated in a hope of not
causing an armed clash.
The situation of Hong Kong is still ongoing. Chinese government constantly contains
Hong Kong Society with military action. When Hong Kong earns their true universal suffrage, a
true wave of change will sweep the entire country which will cause a change in hope.
