After reading selected chapters from Proclamation and Praise and watching the video
presentations by Dr. Ron Man and Dr. Vernon Whaley, articulate the theological basis for the
Christology of Worship, and describe the role Jesus has as our worship leader. Make sure to fully
document your findings according to current Turabian style.

Ture worship is trinitarian because it involves the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. However,
Christian theology must be founded and centered in Jesus Christ. The "Christie center" means
that acknowledging the role of Jesus Christ in worship is our primary norm. First of all, the past
ministry of Christ’s atoning death for our redemption - 2 Corinth. 5:21 “Christ never sinned but
God put our sin on Him. Then we are made right with God because of what Christ has done for
us” and His present and continuous ministry emphasized in the book of Hebrews 2:12 “I will
declare Your name to My brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You” is the
reason we can draw near to Him in confidence. Hence, “All true worship is in and through and
by Jesus Christ.”1
Christ is our first and ultimate Apostle and also our High Priest.2 Christ is the messenger
of God that reveals the father to us by coming as God’s Word into the world and revealing the
mind of God, His character, and reputation to us. Also, Christ is our High Priest as He is the only
way we have access to the Father. He mediates for us, leading us in our singing and worship
ministry to the Father, and also, it is by and through Christ that our relationship with the Father is
maintained.

(Eugene, OR: Wipf and Stock Publishers, 2007), 4-5.
Ron explains the two-way mediation of Christ. First, Chris represents God to us by
bringing His Word of forgiveness and grace to us and also, represents us to God as our High
Priest by praying for us. As Christ reveals these truths of God to us, our response to this
revelation is worship that is dependent on Christ and not our abilities. “Christ has not only
opened the way into the Father’s presence, He not only shows us the way, but He also actively
leads us in our worship and leads us to the throne of God.”3 Our worship without Christ is flawed
because it is Christ that takes our worship, perfects it, and presents it to God. Jesus is our True
worship leader!
