Being a member of a small church, I can proudly confirm that is in fact an oversized
family. When someone in the church is sick everyone pitches in to take them meals and make
sure they don’t need anything. If they have children, we assist in taking them to school or even
keeping them until they get back on their feet. We visit them in the hospital and do house calls.
We very occasionally have potluck lunch in the fellowship hall after church and to see everyone
sitting around the tables and conversing does the soul good. Most of the time after church, we all
go out to eat together anyways and then come back to the church until time for service to begin.
My favorite thing about being in a small church would have to be when someone goes down to
the altar, either during worship service or altar call, someone is always with them praying for
God to intercede on their behalf. We do not fight our battles alone because we have a church
family that prays for us and calls us out by name. We check on each other during the week and
some even talk on a daily basis. We check on the ones that do not make it to church to make sure
everything is okay. We hug and greet each other like we didn’t just see them on Wednesday!
This is what drew me to this church to begin with. The hospitality and kinship will make you feel
right at home instead of someone new walking through the door for the first time.
We recently had an issue with one of the elders of the church wanting to isolate the
children’s ministry and the youth from the adult class. That did not go so well with the other
members of the church. I explained to my pastor that I completely understood that he wanted
certain things to remain for the adult class however, we are supposed to be a family of one. The
church is the Bride of Christ and it does not separate us into categories. He agreed with me and
made sure that everyone in the church was on the same page. They stepped up and made a point
to include them in what they were doing. I am praying about this but I would like to see some of
the elder females take the younger females under their wing and teach them the righteous way of

a godly woman. The same for the boys. This is a “program” I am wanting to get started to help
them better understand what is required from God as a person. There is so much confusion in the
world right now and I want to make sure that everything is broken down so that they can grasp it
and apply it to their lives.
