Topic: God Created Us to Worship
Scripture: “Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed
and made.” (Isaiah 43:7, English Standard Version)
Identification: Ever since the creation of man, man has worshipped something. Whether that be
their spouse, their favorite musical artist, or even their truck. The word for worship in the bible
means “to bow down to”1 The truth is, humans were created by God to worship Him, but we
humans did not do a good job of that. In fact, most people do not know what true worship is.
That is a problem.
Direction: There is so much packed into scripture as to what worship is. MacArthur states that
“worship is honor and adoration directed to God.”1 We say that we worship other things, but that
is not true worship. God created us to worship Him. Many verses in the bible point to this idea. A
few that do are; It is written: “As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me;
every tongue will acknowledge God.” (Romans 14:11, English Standard Version) “Oh come, let
us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!” (Psalm 95:6, English
Standard Version) These verses show that man was created in God’s image to bring him glory
through worship. What an amazing purpose that is.
Encouragement: There is comfort in knowing that we were created with a purpose. That
purpose being to worship God. Some people could look at this and think, well how is it
comforting to not get any glory for the things we do hear on earth, but I come in on the other side
and encourage with the truth that humans will always worship something and it is so amazing to
worship your creator. It gives purpose, life, and hope. John piper says “true worship is based on

… a right valuing of God’s worth.”2 Worship gives us purpose, but it also shows our worth in
God’s eyes. God sent His son Jesus so that we could live an eternal life worshipping Him. God
said that we were worthy enough for Him to send His own Son! That is enough for me to
worship God.
Application: Read these lyrics from Matt Redman’s Song “The Heart of Worship”3
When the music fades
All is stripped away
And I simply come
Longin' just to bring
Something that's of worth
That will bless Your heart
I'll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the ways things appear
You're looking into my heart
I'm comin' back to the heart of worship
And it's all about You
It's all about You, Jesus
I'm sorry, Lord, for the thing I've made it
When it's all about You
It's all about You, Jesus
Many struggle to get in the right mindset to worship, as you read these words ponder over how
good the God is that you serve and remind yourself of His love.
