Description of the Image of God:
As it states in Genesis 1:27 “ So God created man in is own image, in the image of God
created he him; male and female He created them.” This short verse says so much. God
created humans in His image; this tells us that humans are special to God. Some see
being made in the image of God has to do with the fact that we can communicate with
each other and this is what puts us in the likeness of God. On the other hand theologians
see the image of God to be described as our capability to have a relationship with God.
Other animals cannot. We can actually have a true one on one relationship with God our
Father. Animals such as cat and dog’s cannot. This shows us how important we are to
Him. As the historical approach says “we were represented as united to Christ in his life,
death, burial, and resurrection” (Adkin, 2007). This means we were involved in every
part of His life. He chose us, and nobody or nothing else. I believe we are in His image,
so we should live as He lived, love as He loved and minister how He ministered. He
created us in His image not because He needed us, but because He loved us even before
He created us He loved us. He also created us to fulfill His plan for the world. “We are
God’s workman, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in
advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10). This shows us God made us in Him and in His
image for a purpose not because He was lonely or needed us, but because He loved us so
much. We were made in the image of a great God, so we need to do great things for Him
and with Him. I believe the theologian’s are right when they say being made in His image
has to do with the relationship with Him. No other animal except humans has that
capability. We can have relationships with Him, and with each other.
Statement of Chosen Vocation:
My chosen profession is a youth counselor. My heart is with teenagers, and I believe right
now in this day and time they need Godley counselor’s more than any other time in the
world. I knew when I was a teenager I was called to this profession. I made mistakes in
my life, and I believe when I was a youth if I had someone I could talk to and trust I
would have made some very different choices in life. I believe sometimes we go through
things in life, so we can help someone else and be a blessing in their life. I think that was
the case with me in some parts of my life. I pray that I can be there for many teenagers
and help lead them in the right direction.
Implications of the Image of God in Chosen Vocation:
How one views the image of God can have a great impact on their chosen profession. I
have chosen to become a youth counselor. One way my worldview on the image of God
can impact is the way I minister to the youth that I minister to. If I do not think humans
being made in the image of God is important then I will not express it enough to my
teens. I may be the only chance they have at learning about this, and if I do not think it is
important enough to teach them they will miss out on something that is one of the most
important part of their lives. A second way it could effect my ministry would be, because
I think it has more to do with our capability of having a relationship with God I will take
the time to show them how to develop a relationship with God. I will take time with them
and explain how that can change their life for the better. Another way my view on the
image of God could impact my profession would be that I would teach teenagers to love
like God does. Even ones enemies we should love. We were made in the image of God,
and He loved even the ones that hated Him. That is the way we should love, and if I have
a part in teaching teenagers how to love this way it could change our future.
