Short Reflection Paper 2
My view of theology has changed in many ways over the past eight weeks. Like I stated
in the first reflection paper for this course, I previously did not even understand what theology
was. However, I have gained a much deeper understanding over the past eight weeks regarding
theology, and why it is so important to study it as a Christian. In one of the class presentations
for this course, I learned that good theology could be compared to starting a really good fire.
The fire in this case would be a burning passion for God, and the ingredients for the burning
passion would be the Bible, and good theology. So good theology gives us a passion for God
and I have found this to be so true. As I have gone through this course I have found myself in
awe of God as I am finding out more and more about Him and His word. My view of theology
has also changed because I have learned all of the true benefits to studying theology, which has
made me want to continue my studying. Previously, I had no clue as to why to study theology.
I now know that studying theology is beneficial in learning God’s will and His plan for me,
sharing the gospel with others, becoming more like Christ, and more. My view of theology has
completely changed, and I am quite excited to take the next class level of theology, and study
more.
I have been able to put the things I have learned in this course into practice in a few
different ways. For example, I have learned how to pray practically and thoughtfully in different
circumstances, such as in sports. I learned that thinking through the priorities of Christ should be
what shapes our prayers, rather than what I want at the moment. I am a very athletic person who

loves to play different sports, and in the past have never thought about connecting sports with
prayer-besides asking to help me win. So by being thoughtful about my prayers, before playing I
have started praying that God will be glorified through the sport, and that I will be able to put
God’s character on display. I have been thinking more thoughtfully about how I pray and what I
pray for. I have also learned that the gospel message gives me a new purpose, identity, and
ethic. This is something that I was in desperate need of realizing and learning. I have been a
Christian all of my life but I have always put my identity in different things besides Jesus. Until
this study of theology I have put my identity in things I was good at, such as sports, school, and
even my physical appearance. But studying theology and studying who God truly is, has shown
me that
the gospel and Jesus gives me my identity. The fact that I am a child of God and I do not need to
justify myself through anything other than Christ alone is something I have recently learned, and
am trying to apply to my life. These are just two examples of what I have learned throughout
this course, and are working on applying to my life.
