The Natural World
Historically, when the time the Bible was written the way to emphasize a certain phrase
or concept was to repeat it multiple times. As I read the beginnings of Genesis I keep this in
mind when God says multiple times, “And God saw that it was good” (Gen. 1:9) God continues
to repeat this phrase as he goes through the process of creation. However as soon as you get to
chapter two verse nine, we see the opposition of this idea of good present for the fist time of the
world. God speaks directly about the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. We know how the
rest of the story continues, Adam and Eve wrongfully choose to eat of this tree therefore bringing
evil and sin into the world. This is all framework defining how the natural world was as God
created it. The earth was good and complete; the natural world was good. But as soon as Adam
and Eve disobeyed God, the natural world became a fallen and depraved state that humans were
trapped in until a savior came.
Human Identity
Any Human Identity ultimately stems from Christ. The Bible says, “Then the Lord God
formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the
man became a living being.” (Gen. 2:7). This means that each breath we take in is a gift of God,
and it has been that way since the very first breath taken by a human being on earth. The Bible
also reminds us multiple times that we were created in God’s image. And that refers back to that
very verse where God formed man by his own hands. Our identity therefore whether we
acknowledge it or not will always and forever be found in Christ who formed us each
individually.
