Doctrine of Revelation
When talking about General revelation, one question that many people ask is “Is general
revelation sufficient?” Erickson defines General revelation as “God’s communication of himself
to all persons at all times and all places” (Erickson pg. 26). After reviewing what the textbook
and the bible had said I do not personally think general revelation is enough. Someone cannot be
saved by just by the nature of God’s creation. Psalms 14:3 talks about how the nature is
universally sinful. John 3:18 states that we are already condemned when we are born into this
sinful world. General revelation is not enough to know God’s will which is necessary in order to
be saved. Because of this we are given particular or special revelation. Which according to
Erickson is “God’s particular communication and manifestation of himself to particular persons
at particular times, only by consulting sacred writings” (Erickson pg. 26). Humans do need
special revelation. It is only through Christ that we can know his will in order to be saved.
Hebrews 1:1-2 is a very important text that states God spoke through his or in his Son. When it
comes to the gift God gave humans to grow and get to know him more, the bible. I believe it to
be inerrant. I believe the bible to be fully inerrant. What I mean by inerrancy is “when all the
facts are known and properly interpreted the bible will be shown to be wholly true in everything
they affirm, social, physical or life sciences” (Hamilton). And if the bible is inerrant then that
also means it has authority because it is true. We should obey the bible because of its truth.
