Biblical Worldview Essay
When I hear “Biblical Worldview” I tend to think of, myself, viewing all my interactions
with the world from the laws and examples within the Bible. As this course, and others I am
taking, continue I am learning there is a lot more to it. I believe my faith and knowing that we are
all as humans created in the image of God, play the largest rolls in the way I view the world.
Charles Spurgeon gives a great description of what faith means in his book, All of Grace. He
states (1) “What is faith? It is made up of three things Knowledge, Belief, and Trust.” I think this
is a great way to gain more insight into my Biblical Worldview. In order to allow anything to
have an effect on my worldview I should Have knowledge about it, which in my mind means I
should study and understand what the message or purpose is, or was. Knowledge on the purpose,
or topic of the message will guide me toward the right direction in weather to believe or not.
When my knowledge and belief are strong, I can safely come to either trust that the message or
purpose behind it is true, or reject it as false. I believe my ability to have faith; to know, believe,
and trust, is one great attribute God has given us being created in his image.
The Bible says in (2) Romans 12:2 “And be not fashioned according to this world: but be
ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, and ye may prove what is the good and acceptable
and perfect will of God. 3 For I say, through the grace that was given me, to every man that is
among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think as to think

soberly, according as God hath dealt to each man a measure of faith.” These verse are a perfect
description of how I view, and hopefully interact, with the world from a biblical perspective. In
my chosen profession of bookkeeping and Project management, If I allow myself to be
“fashioned by the world” then I will tend to overlook some of the unethical practices that might
be going on within the company I work for. Even though I know it’s not right, I might think
there not that bad, simply because I value my job more than I value my integrity. I know for me,
if I look at something from the perspective of human nature I can justify a lot of morally gray or
unethical behaviors, but when I look at that same something, putting my faith and my beliefs
ahead of what I am sure is not right, my ability to justify unethical actions, in myself and others,
is greatly diminished.
(3) In chapter 8 of Core Christianity it starts with a story of four blind men feeling, and
attempting to describe an elephant. All four men come up with completely different, and all
wrong, descriptions when taken to account individually. In the second paragraph it goes on to
say that, “Today people have many different, often conflicting, ways to describe life and the
world. Some see the world as coming to be through process of evolution. Christians see the
world as the handiwork of the Creator.” In Christianity, when I look at others from the
perspective of being equally created by God, it tends to humble me more. It helps me to realizes
that God created us all with a purpose and who am I to say that my purpose is any greater that
another’s. When I keep this perspective in my work and personal life I tend to treat people
better. It always helps me to remind myself, we are all dealing with our own battles and I should
never compare someone’s weaknesses or strengths to my own. In my Job as a bookkeeper I
tend to think my way is always the right or the best way, but when I stop comparing my view of
“the

elephant” to a co-workers and try to take both views into account, it sometimes allows me to gain
a better perspective and learn from others things that might make me better at my job.
In (4) Genesis 1:26-27 it talks about God’s creation of man in his image. If I keep this
image in the front of our mind, it helps be to remember that I am not “fashioned by the world”
but carefully created by a creator in his image. We as humans tend to put a great deal of
emphasis on physical image, but I think when God say we are created in his image, it is less
about the physical attributes and more about the soul. I believe our ability to have faith, love,
empathy, discernment, Etc. are more involved with the image of God. (5) In Theology applied
chapter 11 it states that the image of God refers to “something a human is rather than something
he has or does, by virtue of being human, one is in the image of God; it is not dependent upon
the presence of anything else.” I believe my biblical world view is to live out what I study in the
Bible. I read it and it helps me gain knowledge that helps me believe in what I know now is true.
Living out a biblical worldview make us not only hears but doers. Human being are the only
ones with the
ability to follow (6) James 1:22 “But be ye doers of the word, and not
hearers only, deluding your own selves.” With this in mind we must walk
by faith, and remember that we are all a reflection of God in a unique
way that is specific to each one of us.
