What are Angels and Demons? Where did they come from? Where they made by God?
What is their purpose in this world? These are all questions we have all asked ourselves and our
church community for centuries, and still there are no definite answers for them, because there is
not a lot of information on either one. In this essay, I will touch the basics of what we do know in
a theological and biblical aspect.
Angels
Theological Definition
Angels are said to be beautiful beings of light that protect and watch over people. When
asked, children believe they are souls of good people that died, are given wings and halos that
watch over and guide us. I have even heard some have a belief of them being a life source from
another planet; aliens. There are many different understanding and beliefs of what angels truly
are, however, unless you are a Christian and have an understanding of the Bible then you will not
have a true understanding of what angels are.
Biblical Foundation
There is little understanding of what angels really are. According to the Bible angels
deliver messages, accompany the lonely, grant protection, and fight God’s battles. It is stated that
angels were created within the days God created the Heavens (Gen 1:1). They are said to be the
sons of God, “Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the
Lord... (Job 1:6)”. They are described in Ezekiel 1:1-11 as creatures with four faces; the face of a
man, an ox, a lion and an eagle. Each one had four wings, straight legs and is said that their feet
were like the soles of calves’ feet and it is said that they sparkle like that of burnished bronze.
Others have witnessed angels as “countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow

(Matthew 28:3”, men in “shining garments (Luke 24:4)”, and were described as a man who’s
“body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like torches of fire, his
arms and feet like burnished bronze in color (Daniel 10:6)”. Angels are beings of good. A
couple angels mentioned in the Bible are Michael, the soldier, and Gabriel, the messenger.
Angels where made in the image of God, are invisible, possess distinct identities and they have
limited knowledge.
Practical Application
Angels are easily believed in and are a symbol of hope and understanding of Gods will.
When we believe in angels we believe in all things good in this world and have faith in the
outcome of situations in our lives. When we pray to God, and He answers our prayers, angels are
the messengers. He sends them to give us the message we need to answer our questions. These
messengers can be a friend, teacher, family member or priest and we can even gain insight to our
questions in our dreams if we pay attention.
Demons
Theological Definition
Demons are considered to be evil beings of darkness that bring chaos, hatred and
hopelessness to the lives of God’s children. These beings are believe to be able to possess
humans on earth and open a wrath of evil upon it. The fear of demons by most is extremely high,
however, some people do not even believe demons exist.

Biblical Foundation
Demons are fallen angels from the heavens whom have sinned and chose to rebel against
God. Jesus encountered demons within his time on earth, “when He had come to the other side
into the country of the Gadarenes, two men who were demon-possessed met Him as they were
coming out of the tombs; they were so exceedingly violent that no one could pass by that road.
“The first fallen angel was Lucifer, known as Satin, the great dragon or the Devil. Another fallen
angel is Apollyon which we know as Abaddon. When Lucifer rebelled against God he was cast
out of Heaven along with all those angels who followed him. Satan’s purpose is to deceive and
destroy all of mankind. Abaddon’s is the ruler of the abyss and is to rule over the rapture, the
end of time, and control the demonic army. Demons cannot prey on those whom fallow God, but
only on those individuals that are lost. Children are innocent and cannot be tempted by Satan.
Practical Application
Many people do not believe in demons, however if they believe in angels they must
believe in demons seeming as how they are angels whom have deceived God and fallen from the
heavens. They try all they can to cause chaos on earth and tempt God’s children to do evil deeds
to fall from the grace of God.
Conclusion
Angels of God and Demons are constantly at spiritual warfare over the good and evil of
mankind. Angels of God try and protect us and lead us in the path of righteousness whereas
demons tempt us to commit sin and fall from all grace of God. To be a true Christian and to
understand the word of God we must believe in all of Gods creations. Even though God did not
create demons themselves, he created the angels and gave them free will and he did us, and

certain angels chose to defy God and rebel against Him. Therefore, in the beginning God did
create both, just some chose the unrighteous path and were cast out of heaven. In the end of days,
the Lord will come to Earth and take his children home, and those who have rebelled against
Him and chose to follow Satan will be left behind.
