As someone who has had the wonderful opportunity to be raised in a Christian home and
in a Christian school, I have been able to learn a lot about the Bible and God and the different
aspects of them both. When I hear the word theology, I automatically think the study of God.
However, I cannot just narrow it down to the study of God. For me, I look at it as things like the
attributes of God, how to grow a relationship with Him, what He means in my life, and even
what I believe about Him. The idea of theology is something that I often cannot wrap my head
around or understand like I wish I could. Everyone has their own theories and outlooks on the
idea of theology so of course not everyone is going to have the same view and opinions on it, but
I personally believe that learning about theology is a great way to grow your own personal
relationship with the Lord because it is what has happened in my own life. I look at it as how I
can grow my relationship with my friends when I learn and know more about them, and the same
goes for learning about God.
In tenth grade there was a theology class that was taught at my school that I learned so
much from. It helped me gain a better understanding of God and what could come from my
relationship with Him. During this time in my life, I was questioning some of my beliefs about
God, but as someone who claimed to be saved, I did not have the courage to tell anyone that I
was struggling with those doubts because I was embarrassed and thought that they might think
differently of me. However, this class helped me gain a better understanding of God and the love
that He had for me despite my doubts that I had. Another gain that I have had from learning
about theology was being able to be a better witness to loss ones around me because I was able
to answer questions that I could not answer before. Along with being able to help answer
questions, I was able to help some that struggled the exact same way that I did with the many
doubts and questions about God. Many that were embarrassed or were ashamed because they
claimed to be a Christian yet still had their doubts about God, were able to learn that I also
struggled in the same way and was able to overcome it.
After this course, I hope to have an even greater understanding of theology. Gaining my
knowledge in this area will do nothing but benefit me in the life that I have ahead of me. This
summer I will be working many weeks of church camp and will be asked several questions from
different age groups and backgrounds, and I want to be prepared as possible to be able to answer
all the questions that I can. Another thing I hope to achieve in this class, is to be able to help or
encourage someone in some way whether it be through a discussion board assignment or reply or
even praying for a need that they have. I have enjoyed all of my classes from liberty so far this
year and have learned so much academically, but I have especially enjoyed that many
encouraging emails and words from peers and professors as well as the blessings from knowing
that others around me are praying for my needs and helping me in every way possible so that I
can strive to be the best that I can be.
