Biblical Metanarrative Essay
The Bible is a large book and guide from God Himself. While it contains many different
stories, people, authors, and life lessons, it can all be intertwined together. The Bible contains
sixty-six books and is known as the guide to the Christian life. This Word was given to us by the
Creator of the world to help us through the trials and tribulations of life and to teach us and show
us love along the way. There are four major plot movements in the Bible, and they consist of the
creation, fall, redemption, and new creation; these come together to create a thing known as the
biblical metanarrative. Two examples of unity in the Scriptures biblical metanarrative are hope
and worship.
Biblical Metanarrative
The unity that is found in the Bible is extremely important to learn about and gain a better
understanding of. Understanding the unity found in the Scriptures can help a Christian develop
their own personal worldview that is not just based off what they have heard their entire lives.
God desires for us to dive into His Word and learn about the things that He has given to us.
“Knowing that we hold God’s literal words to all humankind in our hands in the form of the
Bible, you ought to take some time to read it and process its teachings (B&H Academic, p. 20).
Even though the Bible was written by many different authors, overall, it was written by the Holy
Spirit because He provided them with the Words to write. That is why the Bible is said to be
“inspired by God.” While there are many people in the Bible that experienced these two things, I
find that my mind always goes to David when talking about hope and worship during the fall and
redemption period. While the main characters during the creation and new creation include God,
Jesus, and mankind.
Hope
The first topic that is extremely important that is found throughout the Scripture is hope.
Hope is something that can keep our spirits lifted during hard times because we believe that there
is light at the end of the tunnel. The Bible says in Psalm 27:13-14 that, “I had believed to see the
goodness of the:LORD:in the land of the living. Wait on the:LORD: be of good courage, and he
shall strengthen thine heart.” David, the author of Psalms, had many experiences with hope and
worship. He had hope that the Lord would forgive him after he experienced the fall as he
committed sin with Bathsheba. This hope led to Him being a man after God’s own heart despite
the fall into his sin.
Worship
Another topic shown throughout the Scripture is worship. Worship can be described in
many ways such as giving praise to God, surrendering your needs to Him, or simply just
admiring the goodness of Him. David experienced redemption through His worship to God. He
was the author of many songs and praises to the Lord that got Him through his hard times. He
found that the answer and truth that he needed was the redemption from a Holy God. “We should
not become discouraged in attempting to find the answer to our questions” (B&H Academic,
2012), 23–24). God’s Word is truth, and He is our truth.
Conclusion
In conclusion, we can see that the Bible contains unity throughout the biblical
metanarrative and the people in it. By understanding this unity, we can gain our own
understanding of biblical worldview and how to be a better disciple to the Lord. Overall, hope
and worship are relevant in mankind, Jesus, and God throughout the Scripture. As Christians it is
vital that we keep hope and worship apart of our Christian walk because it can strengthen us to
be better disciples. “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye
may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost” (Romans 15:13).
