I like the example of an analogy you provided to the youth you worked
with. I agree that the use of analogies can help people understand
information in a way that is relatable to them. Jesus used analogies
frequently to reach different people. His analogies got people's attention
by relating to them with familiarity. (Glenn et al., 2015)
Students are able to learn new material easier when they are able to
make connections between new concepts and what they already know.
(Harrison & Treagust, 2012) Jesus knows how we each learn best, I believe
that is why he uses analogies. Jesus is creative in his methods to teach us.
Proverbs 9:9 says, "Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet
wiser; teach a just man, and he will increase in learning." ("Bible gateway
passage: Proverbs 9:9 - King James Version," n.d.) Those who genuinely
want to find truth will be educated. Sometimes out of fear, we run from
the truth of our sins. The use of analogies helps people connect to the
information more personally, helps us accept.
