Course Description
The course titled ‘Counselling Psychology’ focuses on the counselling area and its application
in the real-life setting. Some of the main topics that will be covered in the course include
counselling process that is adopted, impact of counselling on individuals, process adopted by
counsellors, and outcome of counselling. The value of counselling in the area of psychology
will be elaborated so that learners can understand how it can be of use in the health and social
domain. The learners will get an opportunity to familiarize with important concepts and
frameworks relating to counselling psychology. The Counselling Psychology course is worth 5
units. a
Course Objectives/ Learning Goals
The chief learning goal for the course is to expand the knowledge foundation of students on
counselling so that its relevance and significance in the psychology domain can be understood.
After the completion of the course, the learners will be able to:
• Expand the knowledge of learners in counselling psychology so that they can learn of
diverse counselling techniques that can be adopted
• Learners will learn a broad range of theoretical models and frameworks pertaining to the
relevance of different counselling methods for different psychological conditions
• Students will get an opportunity to apply the learned counselling techniques so that
comprehensive help can be extended to individuals suffering from different kinds of
mental illnesses

• Handbook of counselling psychology
• Latest research papers on counselling psychology that is available in the online library of
the university

Grading Scale
The following grading scale will be followed for the course:

> 80 % in the course assignment, quizzes and projects
B
> 70 % in the course assignment, quizzes and projects
C
> 60 % in the course assignment, quizzes and projects

> 60 % in the course assignment, quizzes and projects
Classroom Policies
Attendance – For the Counselling Psychology course minimum 80 % of attendance is required
for students. If the requirement is not fulfilled they will not be permitted to sit for the
examinations and assignments
Late work – The assignments that are submitted after one week of the due date will receive a
deduction of 5 %. Assignments submitted after the period will not be accepted and the students
will be awarded zero for the lack of submission.
Classroom behavior/ expectations – Students are expected to maintain proper decorum during
the teaching sessions. They must come to class well-prepared on the topic that will be covered
so that active participation and engagement will be possible.
Academic honesty – All the students are required to comply with the academic integrity rules
of the university. In case any instance of malpractice or dishonesty is identified, then students
will have to face serious repercussions for the violations which could range from warning, fines,
to suspension. It is strictly advised to students to take part in the course in an honest and sincere
manner. a
