Johnson describes how psychological science and counseling are
intertwined
for the Christian practitioner, extending beyond psychological practice,
but
into other aspects of living as well (Johnson, 2010). In his work, Johnson
presents numerous theories and advocates for a reconciliation amongst
the
approaches, in that he emphasizes a call to action for practitioners in
respecting the viewpoints of others and being open to learning about
them
(Johnson, 2010). At the end of the day, regardless of the approach one
takes, Christians seek to follow the calling of improving the lives of
others and acting and performing as God intended (Johnson, 2010). Due
to
this commonality in goals, it would be beneficial for Christians to embrace
the benefits of the other evangelical approaches to help refine their own.
Going forward, in my particular research area of developmental
psychology, I
can embrace the call to action promoted by Johnson. For example, I can
work
to implement elements of the different approaches into the way that I
approach counseling and also studying the underlying reasons behind the
formation of cognitive processes and behavioral patterns, appreciating
these
