1. In his talk on forgiveness, Dr. Worthington demonstrated a Levels of
Explanation approach by providing an explanation of effective ways in
which individuals should forgive those who hurt them. He has stressed
the manner in which one looks at injustice and how it makes them feel
as per the levels of injustice. According to him, there exist many ways
of handling injustice, such as biblical and non-biblical techniques. The
ideal way to deal with unforgiveness is through forgiveness. He has also
spoken about two types of forgiveness, including decisional and
emotional forgiveness. The issue with decisional forgiveness is that
even though one might decide to forgive another person, the emotions
of what was done might come back and affect the decision (Rolls,
2021). After making the decision to forgive, one needs to have
emotional forgiveness as well. Dr. Worthington has presented the
REACH method, which is a five-step method that can help to forgive as
well as retain the forgiveness. It involves recalling the hurt, emphasizing
with the person who has hurt, forgiving him selflessly, committing to it,
and holding on to the forgiveness even if doubts exist.
2. McMinn has spoken of the integration of Christianity and positive
psychology. He spoke about the fusion when most people in the domain
of psychology could not think of it. He has shed light on how the
unification of both the disciplines can be beneficial for one another. The
church can play an instrumental role in highlighting why one must
forgive in the current times when people mainly emphasize ‘self.’ He has
spoken about the fact that more focus is laid on forgiving others
instead of seeking forgiveness from others. According to him, the
positivity of gratitude can motivate individuals. Young people must be
taught to choose both faith and science. There must be a balance
between Christianity and psychology. He has also identified the health
benefits that may arise from forgiving others.
3. After watching the ‘talks,’ I have realized that the Levels of Explanation
(LOE) approach provides steps on how to approach forgiveness. It has
been discussed by Dr. Worthington. He has stressed forgiveness (Rolls,
2021). On the other hand, integration focuses on combining Christianity
with psychology. It is a much broader concept, according to me. Even
though it does not involve a series of steps, it focuses on combining the
two disciplines so that value can be created at a comprehensive level. c c
