This week’s reading allowed me to explore topics of interest. Therefore,
the initial step was to find a scholarly article that evaluated topics that
sparked engagement. The peer-review article used for review was
“Exploring the Influence of Racial-Ethnic and Gender Identity on the
Prosocial Behaviors of African American Adolescent Males. In, Jordan and
Zanna (1999) mentioned reading through the entire article even when
tempted to stop. It has always been a challenge for me to understand
peer reviews; often, I did what was stated, reading word for word and at
the end feeling bewildered. It always served the purpose when the
conclusion provided me with the answer.0
There was never an assessment of data and no thought of how to test the
data. As I read through the article of interest, I followed the scanning of
the article for key points.00In the article, statements imply that positive
reinforcement was either not evaluated or not enough. Subsequently, only
researching the consequent outcome of negative circumstances outlined
in African American males' upbringing experiences and environment. The
statement (Harris, 2021)
“Interdisciplinary research has shown us young African American males’
experiences are linked to their race0andgender; therefore, research must
use an intersectional lens to understand how these social identities may
be linked to outcomes (Rogers, Scottt & Way, 2015).”0
The article provided an opportunity for further research broadening the
scopes of identity for alternative outcomes. Making this a review article
summarizing previous investigations of a circumscribed problem, suggests
areas of the problem that require further study. The same questions were
derived, “how can I determine if the measurements are correct?” An
enormous amount of time has passed since I studied statistics. When
looking at the data, there is confusion on how to start the evaluation of
the data and is it statistically accurate? The preliminary analysis was
another source of bewilderment. As the article explained the details of the
study conducted and the determined results, I again relinquished my
examination of the data and accepted the results for what it stated was
true.0
