Previously I have spent time working in the child protection field as well
completing an internship with the Victim Advocate Unit at the Sheriff’s
Office. I chose to specialize in the field of developmental psychology and
feel led to become a “thought leader” in this area. In specific, in my
master’s degree and undergraduate degree I focused on researching
childhood trauma in relation to juvenile and adult offending. Being
relatively young and new to this field I have received my truth from sites
such as Google Scholar and my university library. One of the major ways I
received my thoughts about what is true is through my professors during
my studies and research endeavors. Speaking from personal experience, I
feel as though I have received the majority of what I believe is true in the
field of developmental psychology through the influence of my professors
and my field experience in child welfare.
Furthermore, to get more specific as to where individuals get truth in
developmental psychology is from prominent individuals in the field such
as Piaget and Vygotsky. If you were to go onto Google Scholar, you would
approximately get 350,000 articles written about Jean Piaget and or
articles discussing his theories. To show that he is still relevant today, I
restricted the articles from 2021 to the current year and still found
roughly 15,000 articles written. I discuss this example in order to explain
the idea that Sproul (2000), discusses that colleges in fact allow for
individuals to study specific areas that he or she chooses. So, to further
explain, universities are one way how individuals get their truth, because
the majority of psychology students have heard of Jean Piaget. Johnson
(2010), discusses that truth can be shaped by a individuals own beliefs,
which I feel is relevant to this assignment. Ultimately, in my opinion
individuals receive their truth for developmental psychology from personal
beliefs, field experiences, and his or her college endeavors.
