Incorporating God's message into our workplace and careers is one of the
most important missions in our lives. As a future thought leader in the
field of behavioral psychology, I constantly question how my decisions
impact my family, community, and church. God strategically placed me in
this position so that I can bring more knowledge to others and spread his
message through my work.
Rob Moll (2018) wrote in Christianity Today “we are strangers to
ourselves” alluding to the connection of sin and human responsibility. The
nature of our personalities do not stem from free will, but the environment
in which we grew up in, Moll argues. The moral dilemma of indicting
criminals in court becomes increasingly difficult in this case. If their sins
were influenced by external factors, should they be forgiven or tried?
Dennis Regan, a Cornell psychologist, found that people who have had
guilt reinforced into them are four times more likely to help others (Miller,
2020). Preachers have known this to be a fact for decades, if not
centuries. This is not to say that we have to commit sins in order to rise
above our humanistic flaws or desires. Even in the lowest points of our
lives, we can rise again to new heights with our Lord’s guidance.
Being a thought leader in this field would be very fulfilling in my opinion
because I will get to bring people closer to God. I hope to publish original
research on how incorporating Christian values and providing religion-
based resources in the prison systems builds a solid foundation of
morality. There will be less likelihood of relapse in criminal activity and it
can assist people in getting back on their feet post-incarceration.
My “truths” in the world of psychology stems from the Bible. It has guided
me through the highs and the lows, so I have strong conviction that it has
the ability to transform lives. Many individuals get behavioral psychology
information simply by googling and clicking through short articles. Many
leaders in the field look for more credible information in renowned
journals of psychology. One resource that people have missed over the
years when analyzing the human mind is the Bible. If one looks closely,
there are many things we can learn about how the human mind
functions. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for
doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”
(English Standard Version Bible, 2001, Timothy 3:16).
