Purpose of the Study
In the present study, the selected article for the evaluation is “The workplace deviance
perspective of employee responses to workplace bullying: the moderating effect of toxic
leadership and mediating effect of emotional exhaustion” by Malik, Younas, Sattar, &
Nawaz. This study has aimed to determine the relationship between workplace deviance and
workplace bullying. The authors of this article have given the emphasis on workplace

exhaustion leadership or not (Malik et al., 2019).
In the present study, “How to read a journal article in social psychology," the author
Jordan and Zanna has been critically used to evaluate the selected research paper. This
research paper provided guidance to conducting the research study or reading the article in
the field of social psychology.
Introduction
The used article that Jordan & Zanna has recommended in the introduction part asks
about the associated problem in the studies and why it is important to study (Jordan & Zanna,

workplace bullying and exhaustion influence of the toxic and exhaustion leadership. hip or
not (Malik et al., 2019).
Further, Jordan & Zanna (2013) have recommended focusing on how the hypothesis
can be derived by the researchers (Jordan & Zanna, 2013). The author's Malik, Younas,
Sattar, & Nawaz have found the hypothesis-1 as the bullying at the workplace is related
positively with the workplace deviance. Hypothesis-2 gives on the negative effect of bullying
at the workplace on workplace deviance due to the mediates of emotional exhaustion. hip or
not (Jordan & Zanna, 2013).
Methods of research study
While evaluating the research paper, it is essential to check the research methodology
to understand its relevance and validity of the study. Jordan & Zanna has recommended
looking after the hypotheses that have been translated into testable questions (Jordan &
Zanna, 2013). In the selected research paper, the author's Malik, Younas, Sattar, & Nawaz
have taken samples from textile mills in Pakistan for the research study. They have chosen
the textile mills for the study as it is the place where most workplace bullying can be seen,
which is three times higher as compared to ant other industries. They have prepared 500
questionnaires, which were distributed among the textile mills workers. The authors have
ensured them that their responses will not be revealed to any others and will be anonymous.
However, they have received 420 responses to the questionnaire out of a total of 500
questionnaires. Of these, the authors have also eliminated some of the questionnaires because
of the invalid responses and left with 401 responses. Last, the final count was 262 because
they eliminated the "no" answers to all the questions that have been provided by the
respondents. hip or not (Malik et al., 2019).

Jordan & Zanna have further recommended focusing on the variables of interest

gives emphasis on the finding of the research paper (Jordan & Zanna, 2013). In the selected
research paper, the author's Malik, Younas, Sattar, & Nawaz have shown the effective
variable manipulations as the results were consistent among all the participants. It has
resulted that the research hypothesis has been supported by the findings.
Findings of the study
Jordan & Zanna have recommended the reader draw some conclusions from the
research study. Also, they have given the emphasis on identifying the problem under
investigation and trying to find out whether the study has helped to resolve the issues or not
(Jordan & Zanna, 2013). The authors Malik, Younas, Sattar, & Nawaz have provided some
the important suggestion in their study to improve the workplace environment in the future.
The derived conclusion by the authors shows the strong relationship between workplace
deviance and workplace bullying. The finding of the research study shows that bullying at the
