development of a piece of information through all 3 structures of your memory according to the Dual-

The Dual-Store Model of Memory is made up of three parts which work together to store and sort
memories, the sensory register (or sensory memory), the working memory (or short-term memory), and
the long-term memory (Ormrod, 2016). The first component of the dual-store model is the sensory
register. The sensory register holds stimuli from the environment as they are detected by the senses
(Vogel, 2017). Information in the sensory register is stored in much the same way it was detected. Visual
stimuli are stored in a visual form, and verbal information is stored verbally. Information only remains in
the sensory register a short while where it goes on the either working memory or is discarded (Ormrod,
2016).
Information that moves on from the sensory register to be processed moves to the working memory.
Active thinking occurs in the working memory, identifying any information that needs attention and
saving it for a longer period than the sensory register (Ormrod, 2016). This is more where the cognitive
process occurs, where working memory encodes the information from its original form whether visual,
auditory, or etc. Information in the working memory gets stored for longer periods of time to use as
needed. From the working memory, or short-term memory, information processed is then moved along
to a long-term storage or discarded. If moved along, information goes into the long-term memory
(Ormrod, 2016).
Storage in the long-term memory is not as simple or straightforward as with he first two components.
For information to move from working memory to long-term memory, information that is being
processed from the short-term memory is combined in new ways with information already in long-term
storage (Ormrod, 2016).
As we look at the three components of the dual-store model, it is easy to over focus on how our mind
works cognitively, but in simpler terms, God created us to focus our mind on things that are good, things
that are true and pure as the Bible states in Philippians 4:8. So no matter what we process or store or
remember, we must also remember God should be in our thoughts and mind. “Search me, O God, and
know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me
in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23-24, KJV).

Hello, Sylvia. I enjoyed reading your post on the dual-store model of memory. You did a great job
outlining all three components, the sensory register, the working memory (or short-term memory), and
the long-term memory. Your example of how working memory and long-term memory work together is
spot on. Working memory is where active thinking occurs, identifying any information that needs
attention and saving it for a longer period than the sensory register (Ormrod, 2016). Sometimes as we
are faced with new information, especially in a classroom setting, we get reminded that we have already
stored memories similar or in companion to what we are learning. This is such a great example of how
our mind and memories work. Understanding how our memories work is helpful as we go through our
classes and lives.

Hello, Trisha. Your post on Dual-Store Model of Memory was informational and well put together. As
students learning about how our memory works, it is sometimes hard to apply understandable examples
to the information we are receiving. Learning the cognitive process of how information is sensed, either
verbally, vocally, or visually, and then processed into the sensory register to the working memory then
into the long-term memory is not only helpful as a professional but a student studying. Your example of
how input is filtered into what is important and what is not is a great example. The sensory register is
able to filter out unimportant information sending on only what is important for further processing to
the working (or short-term) memory (Ormrod, 2016). It is also a great example of how God refreshes our
minds with His promises and encouragements.
