Time Management Skills as a Behavior Modification
The primary objective of this research paper is to learn about behavior modification
methods that can improve an individual’s time management skills to improve their daily routine.
The desired outcome is to encourage effective time utilization which helps meet deadlines,
prioritize tasks and to avoid procrastination. The research will concentrate on personal behavior
modification, reinforcing the significance of time management to accomplish both personal and
professional goals.
Section I: Target Behavior and Supporting Research
1. Importance of Time Management:
Time management is extremely important because maintaining a balanced and a
productive lifestyle helps in time management. A deep dive into this topic shows us that
effective time management results in lower stress levels, high levels of productivity and
improved overall well being (Lakein,2022;Kaur & Jaiswal,2019). Individuals who have
strong time management skills will efficiently achieve their goals, leading them into great
accomplishments ( Classens, van Eerde, Rutte & Roe, 2021).
2. Previous Research on Time Management:
A ton of studies have looked through into time management behaviors and the
influence that it has on people and what it does to their life. For Example, Roberts,
Loewenthal, and Kentish (2018) conducted a research exploring the bridge between time
management and academic performance in college students, the results that they got from
conducting the research was that there was a positive outcome with implementing
effective time management skills. Not only was there a positive outcome but it had
improved academic outcomes.

3. Benefits of Modifying Time Management Behavior:
By refining their time management skills, individuals open doors to a huge space
of opportunities that will make a huge impact on both their personal and their
professional environments. The positive side of research constantly points towards great
positive outcomes with effective time management. This most definitely reduces a huge
level of stress and anxiety levels that helps them manage their time ( Britton & Tesse,
2017 ). As they get more used to organizing and following through their schedules and
prioritizing their time well , the pressure of late assignments or even overwhelming tasks
will definitely come down and it would put a huge amount of calm and peace in their
lives. Moreover when time is used right it enhances a work-life balance even in a world
that moves so fast and it is pressure filled but after attaining that balance in life you
would be able to work more relaxed but at a fast pace. In order to even attain the calm
and peace in life there needs to be a change in self discipline because this is a key
element along with effective time management.
Section II: Treatment Method and Supporting Research
1. Behavioral Contracts for Time Management:
The treatment plan that I have to modify time management behavior is to
use behavioral contracts with an effective approach. A behavioral contract serves
as a formal and carefully made agreement that has been made between an
individual and a supervisor or a coach with the purpose of improving time
management skills (Miltenberger, 2016). Furthermore, the behavioral contracts
also incorporate a well-defined system of rewards and consequences and this is
because it helps with accountability and responsibility.

2. Research on Behavioral Contracts For Time Management :
Behavioral contracts are widely used to modify different kinds of behaviors and part of
the modification includes time management. In a research done by Harkin, Webb, Chang,
Prestwich, and Conner (2019), the people who were involved had an intervention that involved
behavioral contracts that were narrowed and targeted time management especially in workplaces.
The result indicated an outstanding increase in the individuals productivity and there was a
reduced rate in tardiness.
3. Reinforcement and Economies tokens:
To strengthen good time management behavior needs to be proven effective. This
framework makes individuals accumulate tokens or points to keep score to show consistency and
this is done to show that tasks can be done in a timely manner. This also helps individuals follow
a certain kind of time management approach (Kazdin, 2018). The scores are traded in exchange
for rewards and privileges.
4. Research on Reinforcement and Token Economies for Time Management:
In a comprehensive study that was held by Andersson, Berg, and Soderlund (2018), the
effectiveness of a token economy method enhanced time management skills. The carefully
planned study helped in improving time management behaviors among the students. To
recognize the importance of this study. To stay continuously making one’s time management
skills is so important because it shows how much fundamentals that we have and how it inspires
our actions. It helps to nurture achievements and helps to achieve advancements in the long term.
These groundbreaking methods help reshape the time management conduct within young
adults. The discoveries carry serious consequences for both individual and in a educational
5
scope. The token economy puts a real challenge on every individual but more specifically young
adults.
Conclusion
In Conclusion, effective time management is a place of personal and professional
accomplishment. By embracing behavior modification methods that include behavioral contracts
and token economies, this way young adults can enhance their time management skills. This can
help with reducing stress levels, increased levels of productivity and improved sense of well
being. In using these peer reviewed strategies it helps in empowerment and it helps young adults
to have more control over their lives.
