Abstract
In this paper, I identify the factors that come into play when a woman who is receiving
counseling is outed by a receptionist trying to be helpful. In this situation, the practice fails to
uphold the core ACA values of non-maleficence and fidelity. Both values were severely
compromised. This paper runs through steps 1 through 4 of the Ethical Decision-making model
to determine the best course of action in response to this failure to uphold the ACA values. This
paper identifies multiple areas of the core values that this scenario violates, as mentioned
above, as well as brainstorms possible solutions to these issues. In doing so, this paper
demonstrates a proper understanding of the Ethical Decision-making process by using a case
study to evaluate possible factors and responses.
