Attention ALL Emerging Adults!
We are here to give you a very important announcement: It`s time to grow up…NOW!
Yes, we know that life is different from when your parents were growing up, but your twenties
is SO important. The decisions you make now will determine where you in your thirties, forties,
fifties, and so on. So what are something’s that will help you grow up? Well I`m glad you asked,
here is some advice.
First, psychologist Meg Jay says that your twenties are a sweet spot for development. The
brain caps off its second to last growth spurt in your twenties, so it is very critical for adult
development. It is not too early to start making decisions, getting married, having kids, and to
have a well established life. Do not mix up exploration with procrastination though! (Jay, 2013).
Second, psychologist Jeffery Arnett says to not let people push you into adulthood.
Enjoy your youth,. Yes, it does take longer to prepare yourself in this complex economy we
have today, but do not stay in your youth. Once you enter adulthood, there is no going back
(TED, 2015).
Lastly, college professor and author Dr. David Setran says that your twenties is not a
times to get your sinful pleasures settled. Just because you are twenty and young does not mean
that you can act on your sinful temptations and then later on settle down. When we act on sin it
will be harder to stop in the long run. Sin is not momentarily weak of the will. It starts to weaken
the will and mind (Wheaton, 2016).
So, with all that being said, you emerging adult should be living intentionally (Jay, 2013).
Living life in your twenties is much harder today than it was several years ago, but you cannot
waste these years. Be in intentional, work hard, set goals, and walk with the Lord. We live for
what we love (Wheaton, 2016). When we walk away from God, and live for worldly things we
will start to love those things more than God. The choices you make in this time will determine
what your life will be in the long run.
