Utilitarianism basically means maximizing on utility. Furthermore, utilitarianism attempts
to determine what types of actions will maximize the good by gathering empirical information.
Furthermore, utilitarianism attempts to determine what types of actions will maximize the good
by gathering empirical information. From the view of Utilitarianism, it would be more ethical to
torture the terrorist in hopes of getting more information to stop another attack. Virtual ethics
focuses on somebody's character and morality. Making ethical decisions is the key to virtual
ethics because they guide your decision making and consequences. In order to torture the
terrorist, the first question of virtual ethics would be, what kind of motives are behind the type
of torture. Moreover, it would be ethical to torture the terrorist to insure that injustice is no
longer caused by terrorism. Kantian duty-based ethics means to act morally in the correct way
where one must act to their set of rules that have been laid down. I suppose Kant would say, that
torturing a terrorist would be wrong if they do not give us the required information we are
looking for. Lastly, Christian- principle based ethics refers to behaving accordingly to scriptures
in the Bible or following the commandment’s fully. A Christian based ethic would derive their
principles from the Bible which focuses their attention on justice and love. Sometimes justice
can be given to the wrong person who has not committed a crime or has partook in it. So we
have to be careful on the type of torture and if we have all of our information. Furthermore, I
believe that the Christian- principle based ethic would be the best solution for terrorism. This
way we are not causing bodily harm, but we can remain tough on a terrorist and not have the
terrorist get their way. I also believe that we cannot show weakness against others or make them
think that we are week. We have to stand our ground and stay strong against our enemies. This
allows for a full analysis of what not only is bad but what is good.
