PACO 625: Discussion Thread _ Nudity
In looking at the situations of a single Christian posing nude for a painting or a sculpture, and a
Christian couple videotaping their sexual encounters and photographing the other in nude for
personal use, both opens the door to sin. One would hope to have to consider this individual (s)
as not being a mature Christian (s). He/she (they) may very well be new to the faith and lack the
knowledge of the bible and God’s expectation for His servants, so wise counseling would be
advised for correction. Even so, for the couple who is already having sexual encounters,
counseling and open rebuke will need to take place, because sex is not allowed before in the
Christian faith. Also, a couple sharing nude or partially nude pictures of themselves while dating
is another form of sinning with the eyes (Lust of the eyes) and conceives lust in the heart which
has a great chance in leading to physical fornication between the couple. It is understandable that
singleness can be lonely, but as a Christian, one should seek God for strength and restraint.
Hiestand & Wilson (2017) spoke “Singleness is never a life sentence to loneliness but has joys
and challenges” (p.81). The bible teaches in Matthew 5:28, “But I say unto you, that whosoever
looketh upon a woman to lust after her have committed adultery with her already in his heart.”
However, when it comes to a married couple things maybe examined differently within the
Godly boundaries of the bible. As a wife posing nude to take professional photographs for her
husband will not be considered sin, if the husband is the one taking the pictures. However, if
someone else is taking the pictures, then she maybe held accountable for cause another to
stumble in their flesh by lusting after her. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 teaches, “The body is the temple
of the Holy Ghost, which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own.” In further
saying, Christians are taught that we should keep our names clean. In either of the listed
scenarios, it presents a chance for scandalization which could hurt the participants more than the
actual act within itself, so neither would be wise to do. The author, Jones (2015) speaks, “For
Christians, women aren’t property or baby makers. We’re witnesses to the life of Jesus Christ in
our bodies” (p. 79), Therefore, Christian women and men must consider the very acts they
choose to participant within their bodies and with their body.
