When it comes to blending families, it is vital that we take in all parties feelings
and frustrations as they are all valid. Prepare/Enrich says, “The first two years of creating a
stepfamily are considered as stressful as the first two years following a divorce.”1 This is so
important as children do not understand and there little brains get caught up with all kinds of
different emotions and hesitations as to what to expect by the union of another person coming
into their life especially when it comes to the thought of this person having authority over their
life in any aspect. They might also feel that they are in a sense loosing the parent that is getting
married and taking it a step further they might feel less loved if the step parent coming in has
children as well or they could feel like they are being replaced. Then there is the whole what if
one of the people really does not want any children or any more than what they already have
theses are huge topics, questions, and concerns that I would discuss in counseling as they are so
very important when one is looking to possibly blend families. These are the same things that I
look at myself when entering any form of relations with the opposite sex. It is important that I
protect myself and children as well as the person with who is wanting to get to know me and
possibly my children. 1 Timothy 5:8 says, “But if any provide not for his own, and especially for
those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.”2 When entering
into a blended family it is imperative that the topic of providing is covered by so that both parties
are under the same expectations going into marriage. It must also be taken into account the
amount of time that it can take for the blending to settle once married if there is resistance by any
party. However, when blending families is done right it can be a beautiful thing for all involved
and add to the enrichment of the lives of all of the people involved. We must make certain that
