Abstract
Dorothy Johnson spent her lifetime developing a nursing theory she called The Behavioral
System Model. Her goal was to induce behavior modification after an assessment of behavioral
systems were thoroughly assessed. Multiple systems and aspects must be properly addressed in
order to obtain results, and this causes difficulty in closing the gap between nursing theory and
nursing practice. This paper will attempt to close the gap and apply Johnson’s theory to everyday
nursing practice in the Pediatric Emergency Department by detailing examples of the use of The
Behavioral System Model.
