My Personal Nursing Philosophy
The field of nursing has many different definitions and roles that define the job. Nursing
is the one word that brings the words science, art, patient care, communication, teamwork, and
advocacy all together. As nurses, we perform so many different tasks. We have to check vitals,
perform head-to-toe assessments, administer medications, relay calls to the patient’s doctors
and therapists, communicate to the patients and their family members, educate the patients on
their diagnoses, and on top of all that, document that we did every single one of these tasks. I
could go on with all the roles us nurses have to perform while studying and on the job, but
there are so many different responsibilities we do, it is hard to keep count.
When I was posed the question “what is my definition of nursing”, my response is
nursing is the field of overall patient care. There are multiple different components to my
definition of nursing since my definition can seem vague to the eye of the readers. Overall
patient care to me is the science, art, and teamwork that goes into proper and successful
nursing.
The Science of Nursing

with a patient that has new-onset congestive heart failure (CHF), we have to understand the
pathophysiology behind the two different types of CHF, the risk factors, signs and symptoms,
