Abstract
School nurses have an integral role in the educational setting by providing high-quality
nursing care to students of all ages. In recent years, the duties of a school nurse have transitioned
from basic nursing care to increasingly complex. The enactment of the bill H.R. 305 One School,
One Nurse Act of 2023 will provide every school with a full-time Registered Nurse to promote
student wellness, disease prevention, and management of chronic health conditions. The
proposed bill will help school administrators and local school officials understand the importance
of nurse-student ratios and the appropriate staffing of knowledgeable, certified nurses.
