Nursing theories form the foundation of nursing practice in modern times. These theories
are important because they help nursing researchers, students, practitioners, and other
professionals determine the available knowledge and the additional knowledge needed in the
nursing profession. Nurses learn the nursing theories during nursing education and training and
later apply those theories in their nursing practice. The knowledge gained from nursing theories
through education and training is applied by nurses to enhance patients' health outcomes, assist
in decision making, and regulate the nursing profession. The application of nursing theories into
practice varies in different contexts, but quality care requires an understanding of the patients'
needs (Ahtisham & Jacoline, 2015). Therefore, the care services are offered according to the
models described by various theories.
Nurses make decisions all the time when providing care services to the patients.
