1-What is your title presently, and what does it entail? Missions and Evangelism Pastor at
Calvary Baptist Church in Winston Salem. It involves international missionaries and
short-term mission trips, overseeing the different congregations in the church that are
international which is 4 different languages of congregations, evangelism training, and
teaching.
2-Would you say that you aspired to leadership, or was it mostly a call from God? A bit of
both, but the start is a call from God. Then I aspired to it. The call was sensed at a young
age of 12. I was also told by leading men that I was called to be a leader. There are also
qualifications for certain leaders mapped out in the Bible, 1Timothy 3. God equips the
called.
3-What kind of education did you obtain to prepare you for leadership? Please include your
mentors, persons that you followed, your experiences that seem to prepare you for
leadership, as well as education. My youth Pastor poured into me, and I was preaching at
an early age. I went to college at 19 at Oklahoma state university. I complemented that
degree, undergrad with a ministry degree at Oklahoma Baptist University. I then reached
out to professors for some mentor recommendations and was put in contact with a retired
missionary. I had a good amount of people pouring into me with just following their life,
like Jesus. I also went to Southwestern Baptist with an interest in missionary studies. It’s
helpful to have a Paul, Barnabus, and a Timothy in one’s life for mentorship.
4-What would be a piece of good advice you would give to someone aspiring to leadership
in today’s world? Three key ingredients are to be hungry, humble, and smart, according to
Patrick Quincioni’s book. Always be a learner. Listen and learn as much as you can
whenever you can. Prayerfully write out your vision statement. Also, learn what you
should not do. Everything rises and falls on the leader.

1-What is your title presently, and what does it entail? Bishop in the Lord’s Church. A
Bishop is an overseer. My duties involve the Oversight of the Pastor and the
congregation. The bishop is the Pastor’s Pastor. Everyone needs an overseer.
2-Would you say that you aspired to leadership, or was it mostly a call from God?
Leadership for me was a call from God, but because of the call, I aspired to it as well. I
was always there to fit into my calling and learn diligently of what my responsibilities
were spiritually as a leader. Though I preferred to lead from the background, I understood
that my call was to lead.
3-What kind of education did you obtain to prepare you for leadership? Please include your
mentors, persons that you followed, your experiences that seem to prepare you for
leadership, as well as education. I have an eclectic religious background by God’s
choosing. Hindsight I can see where God was taking me. I grew up in the Baptist church
and was groomed at a young age for leadership by my Pastor. As I grew and moved on to
different churches, I was groomed by the several Pastors that I encountered, including
their wives, which taught me the etiquette of leadership. I was able to see the lives of the
men of God and I was able to glean with firsthand experience of what leadership in
character and integrity should be. I am a culmination of a series of mentors and mainline
ministers that taught me. I was also blessed to be the first student at the Joint College of
African American Pentecostal Bishops. This is where I was ordained into the Bishopric. I
attend various Bible schools and am an avid reader. Leaders are lifelong learners. I am
presently planning to go back to school to learn more about my profession.
4-What would be a piece of good advice you would give to someone aspiring to leadership
in today’s world? I would say to love people. If there is love, then there will be
understanding for people. You need love to be effective in any leadership position. Also,
one must learn to deal with the best side of people. Lastly, remain open. Your openness
makes you available to change.
