Research Paper: Human Trafficking, All Ages
The topic that I have chosen for my research paper is human trafficking. Throughout my
paper I plan to not only focus on adult trafficking for child trafficking as well because todays
time, it is not just one age range; it varies. Human trafficking has been defined by the U.S.
Department of Homeland Security as "modern-day slavery" involving "the use of force, fraud, or
coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act. (What Is Human Trafficking?
2020) Human trafficking, in recent years, has been a growing program not just locally but
worldwide, and it could include a variety of things. Many victims of human trafficking are
women and children; however, men are actually affected as well, with as many and one third of
male victims being over the age of just eighteen (Pascual-Leone, Kim, & Morrison, 2017).
According to Yea (2010: 2), ‘human trafficking is the second largest industry behind the drug
trade’, and there is a surfeit of grey literature which concurs with this alarming representation of
trafficking.
Human trafficking can come in many different forms such as: people being moved
between countries for different purposes such as sexual exploitation, organ harvesting, and even
exploitation in a variety of other licit and even illicit labor markets. (Cockbain, E., & Bowers, K.
(2019). Efforts to combat human trafficking have been improved over the years. However,
millions of children and even adults continue to be at risk for exploitation worldwide. (Brown &
Barron, 2018)
I have always had an interest in human trafficking, I just never got fully into the
information and facts on it. Now that I am able to conduct research on this particular topic, I am
more than happy to do everything that I can to get toa place in my life where I can help people
that deal with this or have dealt with this.
