GROUP LEADING PROPOSAL 2
Group Leading Proposal Assignment
Background
In my past experience of leading groups, I have thoroughly surprised myself and others at
the amount of leadership that I am able to display. I have 4 years of experience in leading groups
of various sizes in public settings. I have also led some groups in my church as well. I have had
the pleasure of leading both open and closed groups. The group that I have chosen to lead for this
assignment is an anger management group.
The Group Context
The general purpose for the group that I plan to lead is to allow the clients to be able to
acknowledge that they have anger issues and for them to properly address them while processing
personal problems that has either happened to them or is happening to them. The context is to
cover skills and tools that can be used to address anger. This group is open to any client that is
housed at the facility, but this group will be a closed group that is mandatory for the clients that
are signed up to attend. This group does already exist, and they meet once a week on every
Thursday for one hour and a half. My prior role and involvement in this group is slim to none. I
operate other programs. This program has been one that I have not had the pleasure to facilitate
as of yet. This group was not created solely for this assignment.
The Setting
I plan to lead this meeting on Thursday, November 30, 2023. The group starts at one
o’clock in the afternoon and it lasts for one hour and a half. The location for this meeting will be
at Green Rock Correctional Center. There are expected to be at least 10-12 participants for this
group. These clients are from all over the world and have no relationship with me. The clients in

the group are already knowledgeable about the group meeting on every Thursday but there are
also fliers posted to remind them of the group meeting.
Meeting Goal and Norms
The goal of the meeting is to gain some clarity of why the clients tend to have anger
issues and assist them with how they respond to negativity in their lives. This goal is appropriate
for this group because the group is an anger management group. The focal point is to first
acknowledge that the clients have anger issues and allow them to see that there are more positive
than negative ways to handle personal issues. The icebreaker that I plan to use for opening the
meeting is to ask everyone what is something that makes them happy. With me using this
icebreaker it can start the meeting off in a more positive tone as we will soon throughout the
meeting find ourselves in more intense conversations as the meeting goes on. Some norms that I
will need to set are that this group will be a judgement free zone, we shall all respect one another
and not go back outside the group to repeat anything that was shared and also set the expectation
that it is important for everyone in the group to participate.
Meeting Content and Process
The content for the middle phase of the proposed meeting will be focused upon getting to
the root causes of these clients displaying anger rather than using more efficient skill steps to
address negativity. There is an anger management book that is provided to those that are in the
group. I will provide them with a feelings chart as well. The feelings chart will display different
faces that look like emojis that the group will be able to utilize to point and describe how they
are feeling throughout the meeting.
Conclusion
GROUP LEADING PROPOSAL 4
I am excited and kind of nervous to lead this group as I have never done so before. I do
believe that the clients will be able to gain something out of the group that they did not recognize
prior to attending. I believe that this group will allow the clients to accept some ownership of
some of the negative things that have progressed in their lives and also be able to move forward
in a more positive manner. I will encourage the group to believe what the Bible says, “know this,
my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the
anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God” (James 1:19-20 (ESV), n.d.).
