The main purpose of the 10 Essential Services of Public Health is to provide guidelines to
protect and encourage the health of all individuals within a community (Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, 2024). Each service focuses on optimizing the health and well-being of
everyone equally, refraining from discrimination or bias. All these services are important, but
this essay will focus on a few that directly relate to the role of biostatistics. Biostatistics focuses
on the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data related to biological and health sciences
(Ramsey et al., 2025).

The first Essential Public Health Service that I feel relates well to biostatistics along with
the issue of medication advertising would be the Essential Public Health Service #1: assess and
monitor population health status, factors that influence health and community needs and
assets. Assessment is critical when determining individualized needs because not everyone is
the same and what one person may need to thrive could be harmful to another person. Once
healthcare professionals have a proper assessment of the health status of their community
population and all the factors that can influence population health, they are more likely to be
able to accurately advertise medications that can be beneficial to most of the population that
it's tailored to. By doing so, we can improve the satisfaction of the community and decrease
inappropriate medication use and unnecessary costs (FDA, 2025).
The next Essential Public Health Service that I feel is important to the issue of medication
advertising and biostatistics would be the Essential Public Health Service #2: investigate,
diagnose, and address health problems and hazards affecting the population. By being able to
address issues within the community, healthcare professionals can determine any patterns that
may be present and work towards implementing ways to help break the patterns and better
enhance the health and safety of the population. One of the main factors that could cause a
potential threat to public health and safety is the lack of education regarding medications and
the proper way to take them. By making sure we educate individuals and assess their knowledge
afterwards, we can minimize improper use of medications outside of the inpatient setting.
The third Essential Public Health Service that I feel is beneficial for the issue of
medication advertising and biostatistics would be the Essential Public Health Service #3:
communicate effectively to inform and educate people about health, factors that influence it,
and how to improve it. Healthcare professionals must take into consideration that most of the

lay population won't understand medical terminology so when communicating with them and
educating them on the benefits and risks of medications, it must be done so in simple, easy to
comprehend terms. Also, some lower-income individuals may lack proper education, so they
may have difficulty especially with reading discharge information, pamphlets, etc. In the United
States, we are seeing an increase in patients from different cultures, so by making sure there's
not a communication barrier can help prevent miscommunication/misunderstanding of
information that's being provided.
The last Essential Public Health Service that I would like to address that's beneficial to
the issue of medication advertising and biostatistics would be the Essential Public Health Service
# 7: assure an effective system that enables equitable access to the individual services and care
needed to be healthy. It is important to take into consideration the individual, addressing each
need in a way that is specific to them. This helps them feel supported and heard and
strengthens the trust that they have with their healthcare providers.
The mission of intelligent faith is to defend and proclaim biblical truth around the world
(Intelligent Faith, 2025). Individual’s portraying intelligent faith must act in a way that is ethical
and beneficial to everyone, just as God would act towards us. To incorporate intelligent faith
into

medication advertising and biostatistics, the advertising must be truthful and backed by facts.
Advertisers and servant leaders must refrain from misleading individuals by portraying false
information for their own personal gain. By being honest, servant leaders can gain the trust and
respect from the individuals that they are seeking to reach out to regarding their advertising
targets.
