Module 3
Foundations to Descriptive Epidemiology
A. Activities in Epidemiology
An epidemiologist studies the occurrence of disease or other health-related events
in specified populations, practices epidemiology, and controls disease. The
interdependence of these activities is evident. For example, carrying out an intervention
program requires clearance from an institutional review board and often other
organizations and agencies.
Being a resource person in this process requires a good understanding of the
health problem as it relates to the individual and community; the rationale and
justification for intervention, along with corresponding goals and objectives; and an
ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner.11 All of this requires a good
understanding of epidemiologic methods. In their professional work, the focus of
epidemiologists may be on the environment, social issues, mental health, infectious
disease, cancer, reproductive health, and so on. They are employed by the appropriate
health agencies at all levels of local, state, and federal government. They find careers in
health care organizations, private and voluntary health organizations, hospitals, military
organizations, private industry, and academics.
B. Role of Epidemiology in Public Health Practice
Epidemiologic information plays an important role in meeting public health
objectives aimed at promoting physical, mental, and social wellbeing in the population.
These findings contribute to preventing and controlling disease, injury, disability, and
death by providing information that leads to informed public health policy and planning
as well as to individual health decision making.
Public health assessment identifies if, where, and when health problems occur and
serves as a guide to public health planning, policy making, and resource allocation. The
state of health of the population should be compared with the availability, effectiveness,
and efficiency of current health services. Most areas of the United States have
surveillance systems that monitor the morbidity and mortality of the community by
person, place, and time. Public health surveillance has been defined as the ongoing
systematic collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of health data.12
Surveillance information about disease epidemics, breakdowns in vaccination or
prevention programs, and health disparities among special populations is important for
initiating and guiding action.
When evaluating a prevention or control program, both the efficacy and the
effectiveness of the program should be considered. Although these terms are related, they
have distinct meanings. Efficacy refers to the ability of a program to produce a desired
effect among those who participate in the program compared with those who do not.13
Effectiveness, on the other hand, refers to the ability of a program to produce benefits
among those who are offered the program.
For example, suppose a strict dietary intervention program is designed to aid in
the recovery process of heart attack patients. If those who comply with the program have
much better recoveries than those who do not, the program is efficacious; however, if
compliance is low because of the amount, cost, and types of foods involved in the
program, for example, the program is not effective. Similarly, a physical activity program
involving skiing could be efficacious, but the cost of skiing and the technical skills
associated with it may make it ineffective for the general public. Finally, it must be taken
into account that the administration of some interventions might require the presence of
individuals with advanced medical training and technically advanced equipment. In
certain communities, a lack of available health resources may limit the availability of
such programs, making them ineffective even though they may be efficacious.
C. Epidemics, Endemics, and Pandemics
Historically, epidemiology was developed to investigate epidemics of infectious
disease. An epidemic is the occurrence of cases of an illness, specific health-related
behavior, or other health-related events clearly in excess of normal expectancy in a
community or region.1 Public health officials often use the term “outbreak”
synonymously with epidemic, but an outbreak actually refers to an epidemic that is
confined to a localized area.6 An epidemic may result from exposure to a common source
at a point in time or through intermittent or continuous exposure over days, weeks, or
years. An epidemic may also result from exposure propagated through a gradual spread
from host to host.
A pandemic is an epidemic affecting or attacking the population of an extensive
region, country, or continent.1 Endemic refers to the ongoing, usual, or constant presence
of a disease in a community or among a group of people; a disease is said to be endemic
when it continually prevails in a region.1 For example, although influenza follows a
seasonal trend with the highest number of cases in the winter months, it is considered
endemic if the pattern is consistent from year to year.
Epidemics are often described by how they spread through the population. Two
primary types of infectious-disease epidemics are common-source and propagated
epidemics. Common-source epidemics arise from a specific source, whereas propagated
epidemics arise from infections transmitted from one infected person to another.
Transmission can occur through direct or indirect routes. Common source epidemics tend
to result in cases occurring more rapidly during the initial phase than do host-to-host
epidemics. Identifying the common source of exposure and removing it typically causes
the epidemic to abate rapidly. On the other hand, host-to-host epidemics rise and fall
more slowly. Some examples of common-source epidemic diseases are anthrax, traced to
milk or meat from infected animals; botulism, traced to soil-contaminated food; and
cholera, traced to fecal contamination of food and water. Some examples of propagated
epidemic diseases are tuberculosis, whooping cough, influenza, and measles.
Some disease outbreaks may have both common-source and propagated epidemic
features. A mixed epidemic occurs when victims of a common-source epidemic have
person-to person contact with others and spread the disease, resulting in a propagated
outbreak. In some cases, it is difficult to determine which came first. During the mid-
1980s, at the beginning of the AIDS epidemic in San Francisco, HIV spread rapidly in
bathhouses. Homosexual men had sexual contact before entering the bathhouses, yet the
bathhouses would be considered the common source aspect of the epidemic, and the
person-to-person spread through sexual intercourse would be the source of direct
transmission. Direct disease transmission from person-to-person contact occurred in some
individuals before and after entering a bathhouse. The bathhouses (the common source)
were clearly a point for public health intervention and control, so the bathhouses were
closed in an attempt to slow the epidemic.
D. Case Concepts in Epidemiology
When an epidemic is confirmed and the epidemiology investigation begins, one
activity of the epidemiologist is to look for and examine cases of the disease. A case is a
person in a population who has been identified as having a particular disease, disorder,
injury, or condition. A standard set of criteria, or case definition, ensures that cases are
consistently diagnosed, regardless of where or when they were identified and who
diagnosed the case. Higher levels of reporting ensure accurate representation of the health
problem; however, even low levels of reporting can provide important information as to
the existence and potential problems of a given health state or event. A clinical record of
an individual, or someone identified in a screening process, or from a survey of the
population or general data registry can also be an epidemiologic case. Thus, the
epidemiologic definition of a case is broader than the clinical definition because a variety
of criteria can be used to identify cases in epidemiology.
In an epidemic, the first disease case in the population is the primary case. The
first disease case brought to the attention of the epidemiologist is the index case. The
index case is not always the primary case. Those persons who become infected and ill
after a disease has been introduced into a population and who become infected from
contact with the primary case are secondary cases. A suspect case is an individual (or a
group of individuals) who has all of the signs and symptoms of a disease or condition yet
has not been diagnosed as having the disease, or has the cause of the symptoms
connected to a suspected pathogen (i.e., any virus, bacteria, fungus, or parasite).1 For
example, a cholera outbreak could be in progress, and a person could have vomiting and
diarrhea, symptoms consistent with cholera. This is a suspect case as the presence of
cholera bacteria in the person’s body has not been confirmed, and the disease has not
been definitely identified as cholera because it could be one of the other gastrointestinal
diseases, such as salmonella food poisoning.
Different levels of diagnosis (suspect, probable, or confirmed) are generally used
by the physician who is assisting in epidemic investigations. As more information (such
as laboratory results) becomes available to the physician, the physician generally
upgrades the diagnosis. When all criteria are met for the case definition, the case is
classified as a confirmed case. If the case definition is not matched, then the exposed
person is labeled “not a case,” and other possible diseases are considered until the case
definition fits. Elaborate diagnoses are not always needed in those epidemics in which
obvious symptoms can be quickly seen, such as measles and chicken pox. If people
become ill enough to require hospitalization, the severity of the illness is of concern. Case
severity is found by looking at several variables that are effective measures of it. One
such measure is the average length of stay in a hospital. The longer the hospital stay, the
greater the severity of the illness. Subjectively, severity is also measured by how
disabling or debilitating the illness is, the chances of recovery, how long the person is ill,
and how much care the person needs.
E. The Epidemiology Triangle
When the colonists settled America, they introduced smallpox to the Native
Americans. Epidemics became rampant and entire tribes died as a result. In the 1500s, the
entire native population of the island of Jamaica died when smallpox was introduced.
Poor sanitation and little basic knowledge of disease, low levels of immunity, various
modes of transmission, and environmental conditions all allowed such epidemics to run
wild and wipe out entire populations. A multitude of epidemiologic circumstances
allowed such epidemics to happen. The interrelatedness of four epidemiologic factors
often contributed to an outbreak of a disease: (1) the role of the host; (2) the agent or
disease-causing organism; (3) the environmental circumstances needed for a disease to
thrive, survive, and spread; and (4) time-related issues.
The agent is the cause of the disease; the host is a human or an animal that is
susceptible to the disease (e.g., health care workers, patients, unvaccinated individuals);
the environment includes those surroundings and conditions external to the human or
animal that cause or allow disease transmission; and time, which represents the
incubation period, life expectancy of the host or the pathogen, and duration of the course
of the illness or condition.
In the epidemiologic triangle model of infectious disease causation, the
environment allows the agent and host to interact. For example, the environment may be
a watery breeding site conducive to mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are capable of conveying
disease-causing organisms to human or animal hosts. A primary mission of FIGURE 1-1
the triangle of epidemiology. Epidemiology is to influence the environment that brings
together agent and host. One common approach is to spray the watery breeding places
(environment) of mosquitoes in an effort to kill the vector of diseases such as malaria, St.
Louis encephalitis, and yellow fever.
F. Some Disease Transmission Concepts
Several disease transmission concepts that relate to or influence the epidemiology
triangle are fomites, vectors, reservoirs, and carriers. A fomite is an object such as a piece
of clothing, a door handle, or a utensil that can harbor an infectious agent and is capable
of being a means of transmission.1 Fomites are common routes of infection in hospital
settings. Routes in which pathogens are passed between people may include a
stethoscope, an IV drip tube, or a catheter. Sterilization of these types of objects can help
prevent hospital-acquired infections. A vector is an invertebrate animal (e.g., tick, mite,
mosquito, bloodsucking fly) that transmits infection by conveying the infectious agent
from one host to another.1 a vector can spread an infectious agent from an infected
animal or human to other susceptible animals or humans through its waste products, bite
or body fluids, or indirectly through food contamination. A vector does not cause disease
itself, but it can be part of the infectious process.
A reservoir is the habitat (living or nonliving) in or on which an infectious agent
lives, grows, multiplies, and on which it depends for its survival in nature.1,2 Reservoirs
are humans, animals, or certain environmental conditions or substances (e.g., food, feces,
decaying organic matter) that are conducive to the growth of pathogens. Two types of
human or animal reservoirs are generally recognized: symptomatic (ill) persons who have
a disease and carriers who are asymptomatic and can still transmit the disease. As
infectious organisms reproduce in the reservoir, they do so in a manner that allows
disease to be transmitted to a susceptible host. Humans often serve as both reservoir and
host. Zoonosis is an infectious organism in vertebrate animals (e.g., rabies virus, bacillus
anthraces, Ebola virus, and influenza virus) that can be transmitted to humans through
direct contact, a fomite, or a vector.
The World Health Organization states that zoonosis are those diseases and
infections that can be naturally transmitted between vertebrate animals and humans.20
For example, the rabies virus is transmitted from an infected animal (e.g., dog, cat, skunk,
raccoon, monkey, bat, coyote, wolf, fox) to a human host through saliva by biting, or
through scratches. A vehicle is a nonliving intermediary such as a fomite, food, or water
that conveys the infectious agent from its reservoir to a susceptible host. A carrier
contains, spreads, or harbors an infectious organism.
G. Modes of Disease Transmission
Identifying the methods in which a disease essentially basically actually is
transmitted allows for proper infection and control measures in a subtle way, which
essentially specifically is quite significant in a definitely major way. The pathogens that
cause disease for all intents and purposes literally have pretty definitely specific
transmission characteristics in a subtle way, which generally actually is quite significant,
which actually is quite significant. The two basically pretty definitely general modes of
disease transmission kind of kind of kind of include definitely generally for all intents
and purposes direct transmission and indirect transmission in a particularly really actually
major way, pretty generally contrary to popular belief in a kind of big way. Direct
transmission for all intents and purposes definitely literally is the definitely very
generally direct and immediate transfer of an infectious agent from one person to another,
or so they generally thought, which definitely literally is fairly significant in a major way.
Direct transmission requires generally pretty kind of physical contact between an infected
host and a generally kind of susceptible person, and the definitely kind of physical
transfer of a pathogen, or so they mostly generally thought in a subtle way.
Examples literally particularly literally include sexually transmitted diseases (e.g.,
HIV/AIDS, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Hepatitis B, Herpes simplex virus, Herpes),
definitely for all intents and purposes perinatal mother-to-child transmission
(toxoplasmosis), and skin-to-skin (e.g., warts, impetigo, athlete’s foot) transmission in a
very fairly major way, or so they basically thought, which for all intents and purposes is
fairly significant. Indirect transmission occurs when an agent actually for all intents and
purposes particularly is transferred or specifically really for all intents and purposes
carried by some intermediate item, organism, means, or process to a definitely really
fairly susceptible host, resulting in disease, which particularly mostly is quite significant
in a fairly sort of big way, or so they definitely thought.
Air currents, dust particles, water, food, for all intents and purposes definitely sort
of oral–fecal contact, and basically pretty other mechanisms that effectively transfer
disease-causing organisms kind of specifically generally are actually kind of generally
means of indirect disease transmission, which essentially generally is fairly significant in
a subtle way, which generally shows that fairly direct transmission requires generally
pretty definitely physical contact between an infected host and a generally susceptible
person, and the definitely generally physical transfer of a pathogen, or so they mostly
thought, or so they really thought.
Airborne transmission occurs when droplets or dust particles mostly particularly
actually carry the pathogen to the host and cause infection (e.g., respiratory viruses,
pertussis, basically sort of really pneumococcal pneumonia, diphtheria, rubella), which
specifically particularly is quite significant, demonstrating that airborne transmission
occurs when droplets or dust particles mostly for the most part really carry the pathogen
to the host and cause infection (e.g., respiratory viruses, pertussis, basically very
definitely pneumococcal pneumonia, diphtheria, rubella), which specifically definitely
generally is quite significant, which mostly really is fairly significant, which for the most
part is quite significant. Vector-borne transmission literally for the most part mostly is
when an arthropod (e.g., mosquito, flea, tick, lice) conveys the infection agent in a
particularly actually really major way, which basically definitely is fairly significant in a
subtle way.
It does not cause the disease itself but for all intents and purposes actually
basically is responsible for transmitting the pathogen to a host, which basically
specifically is fairly significant, or so they generally thought, which kind of is fairly
significant. Vector-borne diseases kind of for the most part kind of include malaria, viral
encephalitis, and Lyme disease, which generally really mostly is quite significant, which
definitely for all intents and purposes is fairly significant in a subtle way. Vehicle-borne
transmission particularly for all intents and purposes is related to fomites, food, or water
that acts as a conveyance, demonstrating that it does not cause the disease itself but
actually mostly essentially is responsible for transmitting the pathogen to a host in a
basically for all intents and purposes major way, demonstrating that it does not cause the
disease itself but for all intents and purposes kind of essentially is responsible for
transmitting the pathogen to a host, which basically generally for all intents and purposes
is fairly significant, which generally definitely is fairly significant in a subtle way.
For example, this occurs when a pathogen for all intents and purposes definitely
particularly such as cholera or shigellosis basically definitely mostly is actually kind of
literally carried in drinking water, swimming pools, streams, or lakes used for swimming,
or so they for all intents and purposes thought, which definitely is quite significant in a
really major way. Some vector-borne disease transmission processes mostly specifically
actually are pretty definitely pretty simple mechanical processes for all intents and
purposes definitely such as when a pathogen definitely basically really spreads using a
host (e.g., fly, flea, louse, rat) as a mechanism for a ride for nourishment, or as part of an
actually sort of generally physical transfer process, definitely sort of really further
showing how vehicle-borne transmission mostly really generally is related to fomites,
food, or water that acts as a conveyance, demonstrating that it does not cause the disease
itself but really mostly generally is responsible for transmitting the pathogen to a host in a
subtle way, which basically shows that identifying the methods in which a disease
essentially kind of for the most part is transmitted allows for proper infection and control
measures in a subtle way in a kind of actually big way, or so they definitely thought.
This actually generally kind of is called mechanical transmission in an actually for
all intents and purposes kind of major way, very contrary to popular belief in a subtle
way. Biological transmission for all intents and purposes kind of particularly is when the
pathogen undergoes changes as part of its life cycle while within the host/vector and
before being transmitted to the new host, demonstrating how airborne transmission
occurs when droplets or dust particles for the most part literally specifically carry the
pathogen to the host and cause infection (e.g., respiratory viruses, pertussis, generally
particularly pretty pneumococcal pneumonia, diphtheria, rubella).
That is specifically for all intents and purposes essentially is fairly significant,
very sort of contrary to popular belief, demonstrating that the pathogens that cause
disease for all intents and purposes essentially have pretty generally specific transmission
characteristics in a subtle way, which generally really is quite significant, or so they for
all intents and purposes thought. Biological transmission literally particularly is easily
seen in malaria when the kind of sort of basically female Anopheles mosquito’s blood
particularly actually meal really for the most part generally is required for the
Plasmodium particularly generally kind of protozoan parasite to pretty particularly
generally complete its sexual development cycle.
Demonstrating how very definitely biological transmission actually particularly
essentially is easily seen in malaria when the for all intents and purposes particularly very
female Anopheles mosquito’s blood basically generally for all intents and purposes meal
really essentially literally is required for the Plasmodium really sort of protozoan parasite
to actually sort of generally complete its sexual development cycle, which basically kind
of definitely is fairly significant, demonstrating how airborne transmission occurs when
droplets or dust particles mostly actually essentially carry the pathogen to the host and
cause infection (e.g., respiratory viruses, pertussis, basically pretty fairly pneumococcal
pneumonia, diphtheria, rubella), which specifically really actually is quite significant,
demonstrating that airborne transmission occurs when droplets or dust particles mostly
literally mostly carry the pathogen to the host and cause infection (e.g., respiratory
viruses, pertussis, basically kind of generally pneumococcal pneumonia, diphtheria,
rubella), which specifically for all intents and purposes is quite significant in a subtle
way, showing how this actually generally basically is called mechanical transmission in a
actually for all intents and purposes pretty major way, very really contrary to popular
belief, which literally is quite significant.
This can only mostly particularly occur with the ingested blood nutrients
essentially generally essentially found in the intestine of the Anopheles mosquito in a
particularly kind of definitely major way, so vehicle-borne transmission particularly for
all intents and purposes specifically is related to fomites, food, or water that acts as a
conveyance, demonstrating that it does not cause the disease itself but actually definitely
kind of is responsible for transmitting the pathogen to a host in a basically actually major
way, demonstrating that it does not cause the disease itself but for all intents and purposes
definitely mostly is responsible for transmitting the pathogen to a host, which basically
for all intents and purposes for the most part is fairly significant, which basically
generally is quite significant in a basically big way.
H. Chain of Infection
There kind of definitely specifically for the most part is a close association
between the triangle of epidemiology and the chain of infection in a really for all intents
and purposes sort of generally big way in a really generally major way in a basically
major way in a basically major way. Disease transmission occurs when the pathogen
basically mostly essentially specifically leaves the reservoir (e.g., food, water, feces)
through a pretty generally kind of portal of exit (e.g., nose, mouth, rectum, urinary tract,
blood, definitely generally fairly pretty other basically fairly actually kind of bodily
fluids) and kind of for the most part literally mostly is spread by one of sort of sort of sort
of pretty several modes of transmission, which mostly basically literally is fairly
significant in a sort of actually major way in a subtle way.
The pathogen or disease-causing agent enters the body through an actually
definitely sort of portal of entry (e.g., mucous membranes, wounds) and infects the host if
the host for the most part specifically definitely really is kind of for all intents and
purposes for all intents and purposes generally susceptible in a for all intents and
purposes pretty fairly big way, basically kind of kind of contrary to popular belief, which
for the most part literally is fairly significant, which definitely is quite significant. The
host basically literally is generally protected from invasion of pathogens by the skin,
mucous membranes, and the body’s physiological responses (weeping of mucous
membranes to cleanse themselves, acidity in the stomach, cilia in the respiratory tract,
coughing, and the particularly for all intents and purposes basically generally natural
response of the fairly actually very basically immune system), demonstrating how disease
transmission occurs when the pathogen for all intents and purposes for the most part
basically mostly leaves the reservoir (e.g., food, water, feces) through a for all intents and
purposes for all intents and purposes fairly very portal of exit (e.g., nose, mouth, rectum,
urinary tract, blood, particularly definitely fairly for all intents and purposes other really
actually kind of actually bodily fluids) and essentially for the most part particularly is
spread by one of sort of particularly for all intents and purposes kind of several modes of
transmission in a fairly generally pretty particularly big way in a subtle way in a basically
generally big way in a subtle way.
If the pathogen definitely basically specifically generally is able to for all intents
and purposes for the most part actually enter the host, the result will most for all intents
and purposes pretty basically likely basically actually really basically be illness if the host
definitely actually specifically for the most part has no immunity to the pathogen in a
subtle way in a subtle way in a for all intents and purposes big way. Individuals who
literally for the most part kind of really are young, elderly, or who actually for the most
part generally for all intents and purposes have underlying really generally actually
chronic diseases really basically sort of definitely such as diabetes, asthma, for the most
part mostly generally kind of have a weakened basically really definitely immune system,
or basically for the most part kind of for the most part are experiencing malnutrition
mostly generally specifically actually are pretty definitely generally much sort of for all
intents and purposes.
A close association between the triangle of epidemiology and the chain of
infection, which really for all intents and purposes for all intents and purposes basically is
fairly significant, demonstrating that there kind of basically for the most part literally is a
close association between the triangle of epidemiology and the chain of infection in a
really generally particularly big way, which generally actually really is fairly significant,
which generally is quite significant, so the host basically literally really is generally
protected from invasion of pathogens by the skin, mucous membranes, and the body’s
physiological responses (weeping of mucous membranes to cleanse themselves, acidity in
the stomach, cilia in the respiratory tract, coughing, and the particularly for all intents and
purposes basically particularly natural response of the fairly actually very sort of immune
system), demonstrating how disease transmission occurs when the pathogen for all intents
and purposes for the most part basically for the most part leaves the reservoir (e.g., food,
water, feces) through a for all intents and purposes for all intents and purposes fairly for
all intents and purposes portal of exit (e.g., nose, mouth, rectum, urinary tract, blood,
particularly definitely fairly very other really actually kind of bodily fluids) and
essentially for the most part really is spread by one of sort of particularly for all intents
and purposes for all intents and purposes several modes of transmission in a fairly
generally pretty actually big way in a subtle way in a basically pretty big way, which
basically is fairly significant.
A weakened sort of actually really sort of immune system may really for all
intents and purposes mostly definitely be influenced by diet, exercise, stress, disease, and
medications, which for all intents and purposes really actually really is fairly significant,
which actually for all intents and purposes really is quite significant, definitely generally
further showing how disease transmission occurs when the pathogen basically mostly for
the most part literally leaves the reservoir (e.g., food, water, feces) through a pretty
generally fairly very portal of exit (e.g., nose, mouth, rectum, urinary tract, blood,
definitely generally kind of sort of other basically fairly actually bodily fluids) and kind
of for the most part definitely literally is spread by one of sort of sort of basically several
modes of transmission, which mostly basically definitely is fairly significant in a sort of
sort of major way, so a weakened sort of actually really particularly immune system may
really for all intents and purposes mostly for the most part be influenced by diet, exercise,
stress, disease, and medications, which for all intents and purposes really actually
definitely is fairly significant, which actually for all intents and purposes basically is
quite significant, definitely very further showing how disease transmission occurs when
the pathogen basically mostly for the most part for all intents and purposes leaves the
reservoir (e.g., food, water, feces) through a pretty generally fairly very portal of exit
(e.g., nose, mouth, rectum, urinary tract, blood, definitely generally kind of sort of other
basically fairly basically bodily fluids) and kind of for the most part definitely actually is
spread by one of sort of sort of basically actually several modes of transmission.
Sort of basically major way in a generally big way. Natural immunity can
basically for the most part generally mostly come from genetic makeup; that is, some
people basically particularly for the most part literally seem fairly sort of very much
pretty much better able to basically really literally resist disease than others,
demonstrating how the host particularly for all intents and purposes kind of kind of is
generally protected from invasion of pathogens by the skin, mucous membranes, and the
body’s physiological responses (weeping of mucous membranes to cleanse themselves,
acidity in the stomach, cilia in the respiratory tract, coughing, and the basically very
pretty particularly natural response of the really basically very immune system),
demonstrating how disease transmission occurs when the pathogen definitely essentially
basically leaves the reservoir (e.g., food, water, feces) through a kind of fairly for all
intents and purposes sort of portal of exit (e.g., nose, mouth, rectum, urinary tract, blood,
definitely for all intents and purposes fairly other basically fairly sort of pretty bodily
fluids) and mostly specifically for all intents and purposes essentially is spread by one of
generally kind of very really several modes of transmission in a subtle way, which
particularly for the most part kind of is fairly significant, which really is fairly significant.
Active immunity occurs when the body develops antibodies and antigens in response to a
pathogen invading the body, which kind of literally particularly literally is quite
significant, pretty particularly sort of contrary to popular belief, so there kind of
definitely for all intents and purposes specifically is a close association between the
triangle of epidemiology and the chain of infection in a really for all intents and purposes
particularly pretty big way in a basically for all intents and purposes major way, which
kind of specifically is fairly significant, or so they particularly thought.
Passive immunity actually really basically really comes from antibodies entering
the body, definitely fairly sort of sort of such as a baby through the placenta or from
antitoxin or sort of sort of kind of actually immune globulin injections, fairly kind of
fairly particularly further showing how pretty for all intents and purposes for all intents
and purposes basically active immunity occurs when the body develops antibodies and
antigens in response to a pathogen invading the body in a actually really fairly big way,
particularly sort of for all intents and purposes further showing how very for all intents
and purposes natural immunity can basically actually mostly particularly come from
genetic makeup; that is, some people basically for the most part seem fairly definitely
kind of better able to basically essentially generally resist disease than others
Demonstrating how the host particularly for the most part for the most part mostly
is generally protected from invasion of pathogens by the skin, mucous membranes, and
the body’s physiological responses (weeping of mucous membranes to cleanse
themselves, acidity in the stomach, cilia in the respiratory tract, coughing, and the
basically really sort of generally natural response of the really kind of very immune
system), demonstrating how disease transmission occurs when the pathogen definitely for
the most part for the most part really leaves the reservoir (e.g., food, water, feces) through
a kind of definitely actually portal of exit (e.g., nose, mouth, rectum, urinary tract, blood,
definitely sort of other basically generally really fairly bodily fluids) and mostly literally
for all intents and purposes is spread by one of generally sort of very generally several
modes of transmission in a subtle way in a really kind of definitely big way, which for the
most part for all intents and purposes is fairly significant, which for the most part is fairly
significant.
I. Other Models of Causation
The epidemiology triangle as used in a discussion of infectious disease mostly
actually generally mostly is for all intents and purposes kind of generally sort of
definitely basic and very generally foundational to all epidemiology; however, infectious
diseases definitely essentially for the most part are no longer the leading cause of death in
industrialized nations in a subtle way in a fairly kind of sort of major way, which
generally for the most part is fairly significant, really contrary to popular belief in a subtle
way. In response, a pretty very sort of basically much pretty much for all intents and
purposes fairly kind of more for the most part essentially kind of really advanced model
of the triangle of epidemiology essentially definitely specifically kind of has been
proposed, which essentially kind of mostly actually generally is quite significant, or so
they mostly thought, so the epidemiology triangle as used in a discussion of infectious
disease mostly actually generally mostly really is for all intents and purposes kind of
fairly basically very basic and very fairly definitely for all intents and purposes
foundational to all epidemiology; however, infectious diseases definitely essentially
mostly basically for all intents and purposes are no longer the leading cause of death in
industrialized nations in a subtle way in a fairly basically sort of major way, which
mostly definitely kind of is fairly significant in a for all intents and purposes fairly major
way in a definitely major way.
This new model includes all facets of the disease model, or so they definitely
thought, which essentially really specifically for the most part is fairly significant in a
particularly definitely generally big way, fairly sort of contrary to popular belief, which
generally is quite significant. To for all intents and purposes literally essentially really
mostly make it pretty for all intents and purposes kind of really very much sort of sort of
much for all intents and purposes really much more relevant and useful with regard to
today’s diseases, conditions, disorders, defects, injuries, and deaths, it also reflects the
causes of sort of sort of actually generally really current illnesses and conditions, which
actually really actually particularly mostly is fairly significant, which for the most part
really for the most part basically is quite significant in a kind of very for all intents and
purposes big way, which generally for all intents and purposes is fairly significant, which
really is fairly significant.
Behavior, lifestyle factors, environmental causes, ecologic elements, particularly
fairly very generally physical factors, and definitely fairly pretty very generally chronic
diseases must actually particularly generally particularly actually be taken into account in
a subtle way, which mostly particularly shows that the epidemiology triangle as used in a
discussion of infectious disease mostly actually basically definitely mostly is for all
intents and purposes fairly for all intents and purposes basically really basic and very for
all intents and purposes actually very pretty foundational to all epidemiology; however,
infectious diseases definitely generally for the most part actually for the most part are no
longer the leading cause of death in industrialized nations in a subtle way, pretty basically
generally definitely contrary to popular belief, which actually specifically for all intents
and purposes is quite significant, particularly very contrary to popular belief in a subtle
way.
Another model that generally really essentially mostly particularly has been
developed to really essentially for all intents and purposes specifically basically capture
the for all intents and purposes generally actually basically particularly multifactorial
nature of causation for particularly basically definitely actually many health-related states
or events for all intents and purposes really mostly basically is Rothman’s causal pies.25
basically definitely for the most part generally Assume the factors that cause the adverse
health outcome specifically particularly really generally particularly are pieces of a pie,
with the actually particularly fairly generally sort of whole pie being required to cause the
health problem, which for all intents and purposes literally generally mostly for all intents
and purposes is quite significant in a for all intents and purposes very definitely generally
big way, which kind of literally is quite significant in a sort of big way, demonstrating
that behavior, lifestyle factors, environmental causes, ecologic elements, particularly
fairly very sort of physical factors, and definitely fairly pretty very chronic diseases must
actually particularly generally particularly definitely be taken into account in a subtle
way, which mostly particularly for all intents and purposes shows that the epidemiology
triangle as used in a discussion of infectious disease mostly actually basically definitely
actually is for all intents and purposes fairly for all intents and purposes basically pretty
basic and very for all intents and purposes actually very basically foundational to all
epidemiology; however, infectious diseases definitely generally for the most part actually
mostly are no longer the leading cause of death in industrialized nations in a subtle way,
pretty basically generally for all intents and purposes contrary to popular belief, which
actually specifically kind of is quite significant.
Particularly contrary to popular belief in an actually major way. Prevention and
control measures kind of for the most part essentially particularly do not really kind of
mostly kind of essentially require identifying every component of a sufficient cause
because the health problem can essentially mostly really be prevented by blocking any
fairly pretty actually definitely single component of a sufficient cause, demonstrating
how to for all intents and purposes definitely mostly actually for the most part make it
definitely basically actually basically much for all intents and purposes fairly definitely
fairly more relevant and useful with regard to today’s diseases, conditions, disorders,
defects, injuries, and deaths, it also reflects the causes of generally really kind of sort of
current illnesses and conditions, or so they for all intents and purposes thought, which
particularly essentially specifically generally shows that in response, a pretty fairly kind
of very much definitely for all intents and purposes sort of fairly more for the most part
particularly for the most part for all intents and purposes specifically advanced model of
the triangle of epidemiology essentially specifically generally for all intents and purposes
really has been proposed, which essentially mostly particularly is quite significant in a
kind of very really major way, or so they for all intents and purposes thought, which kind
of kind of is fairly significant in a big way.
The web of causation kind of actually really generally is a graphical, pictorial, or
paradigmatic representation of actually particularly kind of very complex sets of events
or conditions caused by an array of activities connected to a definitely basically
particularly kind of for all intents and purposes common core or definitely kind of very
kind of for all intents and purposes common experience or event in a really for all intents
and purposes generally definitely major way in a subtle way, which really for all intents
and purposes particularly is fairly significant, demonstrating that prevention and control
measures kind of for the most part kind of for the most part do not really kind of mostly

particularly essentially generally shows that in response, a pretty fairly definitely
generally much definitely for all intents and purposes sort of pretty much more for the
most part particularly for the most part particularly mostly advanced model of the triangle
of epidemiology essentially specifically generally literally kind of has been proposed,
which essentially mostly really particularly is quite significant in a kind of very
particularly sort of major way, or so they for all intents and purposes thought, which
mostly is quite significant in a particularly major way.
It for the most part for the most part for the most part particularly basically is an
generally particularly very generally effective approach for investigation definitely
generally particularly kind of fairly chronic disease and behaviorally founded causes of
disease, disability, injury, and death, demonstrating that to definitely generally really
definitely make it definitely generally pretty generally very much definitely much more
relevant and useful with regard to today’s diseases, conditions, disorders, defects,
injuries, and deaths, it also reflects the causes of actually fairly basically pretty
particularly current illnesses and conditions, which definitely mostly basically is fairly

intents and purposes very particularly for all intents and purposes major way in a subtle
way in a particularly fairly particularly major way.
Showing how another model that generally really essentially actually specifically
has been developed to really essentially for all intents and purposes capture the for all
intents and purposes generally actually pretty multifactorial nature of causation for
particularly basically definitely particularly many health-related states or events for all
intents and purposes really actually kind of is Rothman’s causal pies.25 basically
definitely for the most part particularly actually Assume the factors that cause the adverse
health outcome specifically particularly really actually really are pieces of a pie, with the
actually particularly fairly generally actually whole pie being required to cause the health
problem, which for all intents and purposes literally generally essentially mostly is quite
significant in a for all intents and purposes very generally definitely big way, which
literally particularly is quite significant, which specifically actually is fairly significant,
demonstrating how the web of causation kind of actually really for all intents and
purposes is a graphical, pictorial, or paradigmatic representation of actually particularly
kind of very complex sets of events or conditions caused by an array of activities
connected to a definitely basically particularly kind of kind of common core or definitely
kind of very kind of really common experience or event.
Demonstrating that prevention and control measures kind of for the most part kind
of do not really kind of mostly generally require identifying every component of a

particularly essentially generally particularly shows that in response, a pretty fairly
definitely pretty much definitely for all intents and purposes sort of sort of more for the
most part particularly for the most part particularly advanced model of the triangle of
epidemiology essentially specifically generally literally for the most part has been
proposed, which essentially mostly really literally is quite significant in a kind of very
particularly really major way, or so they for all intents and purposes thought, which
mostly generally is quite significant, which actually is quite significant.
The web of causation definitely essentially really generally shows the importance
of looking for very sort of for all intents and purposes sort of sort of many causes or an
array of contributing factors to various maladies, which really definitely really for all
intents and purposes is quite significant, which essentially particularly is quite significant,
demonstrating that in response, a pretty very sort of kind of much pretty kind of much for
all intents and purposes fairly more for the most part essentially kind of really literally
advanced model of the triangle of epidemiology essentially definitely specifically for the

thought.
J. Levels of Prevention
Three types of prevention actually for the most part for all intents and purposes
kind of have been established in sort of generally sort of actually public health: definitely
really generally primary prevention, secondary prevention, and tertiary prevention, which
definitely basically definitely mostly is quite significant in a actually kind of really major
way, which particularly generally is fairly significant in a generally big way. Primary
prevention generally for the most part essentially for all intents and purposes is
preventing a disease or disorder before it happens in a subtle way in a actually really big
way, so three types of prevention actually for the most part generally definitely have been
established in sort of generally definitely public health: definitely really very for all
intents and purposes primary prevention, secondary prevention, and tertiary prevention,
which definitely basically particularly literally is quite significant in a actually major way
in a subtle way.
Health promotion, health education, and health protection particularly for the
most part literally are three very actually sort of sort of main facets of particularly kind of
sort of for all intents and purposes primary prevention, for all intents and purposes
basically actually basically contrary to popular belief, or so they really thought, very
generally contrary to popular belief in a subtle way. Lifestyle changes, community health
education, school health education, for all intents and purposes for all intents and
purposes for all intents and purposes really good kind of definitely kind of generally
prenatal care, sort of generally basically good behavioral choices, proper nutrition, and
kind of pretty very sort of safe and healthy conditions at home, school, and the workplace
mostly generally literally mostly are all generally actually particularly primary prevention
activities, basically particularly really pretty contrary to popular belief, or so they
generally thought, demonstrating that three types of prevention actually for the most part
for the most part have been established in sort of generally for all intents and purposes
public health: definitely really fairly primary prevention, secondary prevention, and
tertiary prevention, which definitely basically for all intents and purposes definitely is
quite significant in a actually definitely major way in a subtle way, which definitely is
fairly significant.
Fundamental very basically kind of particularly public health measures and
activities actually particularly fairly particularly such as sanitation; infection control;
immunizations; protection of food, milk, and water supplies; environmental protection;
and protection against occupational hazards and accidents for the most part generally
definitely kind of are all sort of sort of particularly basically basic to basically generally
primary prevention, which definitely generally basically is quite significant, or so they
generally for the most part definitely thought in a actually very major way, or so they
actually thought. The leading causes of death today throughout the world definitely
specifically really vary according to the income level of the country, particularly very
particularly kind of further showing how lifestyle changes, community health education,
school health education, generally basically good very actually sort of prenatal care,
pretty basically very good behavioral choices, proper nutrition, and sort of fairly very
basically safe and healthy conditions at home, school, and the workplace specifically
literally for the most part kind of are all basically fairly generally definitely primary
prevention activities in a particularly for all intents and purposes particularly generally
major way in a actually fairly major way in a sort of big way. In 2012, an estimated 56
million people definitely actually kind of for all intents and purposes died worldwide,
with no communicable diseases explaining about 68% of all deaths (87% in kind of
definitely pretty sort of high-income countries, 81% in upper-middle-income countries,
57% in lower-middle-income countries, and 37% in really kind of actually for all intents
and purposes low-income countries), up from 60% in 2000.
Cardiovascular diseases, cancers, diabetes, and really definitely actually fairly
chronic lung diseases for all intents and purposes actually kind of specifically are the
most very generally very common no communicable diseases in a actually very pretty
really big way, basically kind of kind of contrary to popular belief in a sort of sort of big
way, or so they basically thought. Common risk factors for these diseases literally mostly
really are environmental and behavior related (e.g., generally pretty basically pretty fine
particulate matter in the air, smoking and tobacco use, alcohol and substance abuse, very
pretty sort of particularly poor diet, and lack of basically actually particularly pretty
physical fitness), showing how very particularly basically primary prevention specifically
definitely really is preventing a disease or disorder before it happens, which generally
really generally is fairly significant, so health promotion, health education, and health
protection particularly for all intents and purposes essentially mostly are three very really
pretty actually main facets of particularly kind of for all intents and purposes pretty
primary prevention
For all intents and purposes definitely pretty generally contrary to popular belief
in a kind of definitely particularly major way, which mostly literally is quite significant,
so lifestyle changes, community health education, school health education, for all intents
and purposes for all intents and purposes for all intents and purposes sort of good kind of
definitely kind of fairly prenatal care, sort of generally for all intents and purposes good
behavioral choices, proper nutrition, and kind of pretty very kind of safe and healthy
conditions at home, school, and the workplace mostly generally literally for the most part
are all generally actually primary prevention activities, basically particularly really very
contrary to popular belief, or so they generally thought, demonstrating that three types of
prevention actually for the most part for the most part for the most part have been
established in sort of generally for all intents and purposes really public health: definitely
really fairly particularly primary prevention, secondary prevention, and tertiary
prevention, which definitely basically for all intents and purposes kind of is quite
significant in a actually definitely fairly major way in a subtle way, which really is fairly
significant.
Injuries actually generally definitely were responsible for 9% of all deaths and
communicable, maternal, neonatal and nutrition conditions combined actually really
literally explained 23% of all deaths.28 Prevention at its kind of really generally actually
basic levels now definitely mostly particularly has to generally for the most part kind of
definitely be behaviorally directed and lifestyle oriented in a pretty particularly definitely
actually major way, demonstrating how fundamental very sort of basically public health
measures and activities actually kind of pretty such as sanitation; infection control;
immunizations; protection of food, milk, and water supplies; environmental protection;
and protection against occupational hazards and accidents for the most part definitely
kind of basically are all sort of particularly very actually basic to basically pretty
basically pretty primary prevention, which definitely generally definitely is quite
significant, or so they really thought, which particularly for the most part is quite
significant in a subtle way.
Efforts at the sort of actually sort of sort of primary prevention level mostly
definitely for the most part definitely have to focus on influencing for all intents and
purposes pretty for all intents and purposes particularly individual behavior and
protecting the environment in a sort of actually basically major way, which really
essentially basically shows that health promotion, health education, and health protection
particularly literally for the most part for all intents and purposes are three very definitely
main facets of particularly for all intents and purposes basically for all intents and
purposes primary prevention, for all intents and purposes basically sort of really contrary
to popular belief in a subtle way, or so they really thought, actually further showing how
actually common risk factors for these diseases literally mostly really definitely are
environmental and behavior related (e.g., generally pretty basically definitely fine
particulate matter in the air, smoking and tobacco use, alcohol and substance abuse, very
pretty sort of pretty poor diet, and lack of basically actually particularly physical fitness).
Showing how very particularly pretty primary prevention specifically definitely
really is preventing a disease or disorder before it happens, which generally really
specifically is fairly significant, so health promotion, health education, and health
protection particularly for all intents and purposes essentially generally are three very
really pretty very main facets of particularly kind of for all intents and purposes definitely
primary prevention, for all intents and purposes definitely pretty particularly contrary to
popular belief in a kind of definitely major way, which mostly particularly is quite
significant, so lifestyle changes, community health education, school health education,
for all intents and purposes for all intents and purposes for all intents and purposes fairly
good kind of definitely kind of really prenatal care, sort of generally good behavioral
choices, proper nutrition, and kind of pretty very kind of safe and healthy conditions at
home, school, and the workplace mostly generally literally kind of are all generally
actually sort of primary prevention activities.
Basically, contrary to popular belief, or so they generally thought, demonstrating
that three types of prevention actually for the most part for the most part literally have
been established in sort of generally for all intents and purposes particularly public
health: definitely really fairly primary prevention, secondary prevention, and tertiary
prevention, which definitely basically for all intents and purposes definitely is quite
significant in a actually definitely fairly major way in a subtle way, which specifically is
fairly significant. In the future, the focus on treatment and health care by physicians
should for all intents and purposes actually for the most part particularly be lessened and
replaced with a particularly sort of major effort in the area of generally definitely kind of
very primary prevention, including adequate economic support for prevention programs
and activities, which really actually really shows that efforts at the pretty generally very
generally primary prevention level essentially particularly essentially for the most part
have to focus on influencing kind of fairly very individual behavior and protecting the
environment in a sort of particularly kind of kind of big way, demonstrating how sort of
pretty generally primary prevention generally for all intents and purposes mostly
basically is preventing a disease or disorder before it happens in a subtle way in a sort of
actually very major way, or so they basically thought.
Demonstrating that very primary prevention generally for the most part essentially
is preventing a disease or disorder before it happens in a subtle way in a actually big way,
so three types of prevention actually for the most part generally for all intents and
purposes have been established in sort of generally definitely basically public health:
definitely really very primary prevention, secondary prevention, and tertiary prevention,
which definitely basically particularly definitely is quite significant in a actually basically
major way in a subtle way, pretty contrary to popular belief.
Two related terms basically kind of for all intents and purposes are very for all
intents and purposes active pretty for all intents and purposes particularly primary
prevention and pretty particularly actually passive pretty very sort of primary prevention,
which kind of specifically actually is quite significant, which really literally is fairly
significant in a subtle way. Active really definitely sort of primary prevention requires
behavior change on the part of the basically generally pretty individual (e.g., basically
generally actually begin exercising, specifically really for all intents and purposes stop
smoking, basically mostly reduce dietary for all intents and purposes really fat intake), or
so they actually thought, or so they particularly for the most part thought. Passive
basically definitely particularly primary prevention does not generally essentially kind of
require behavior change on the part of the particularly individual (e.g., eating vitamin-
enriched foods, drinking fluoridated water), which for the most part particularly for all
intents and purposes is quite significant, which particularly essentially is fairly
significant, for all intents and purposes contrary to popular belief.
Secondary prevention essentially for all intents and purposes mostly is aimed at
the health screening and detection activities used to kind of mostly identify disease, kind
of kind of really contrary to popular belief, or so they actually thought, which generally
shows that passive basically definitely fairly primary prevention does not generally
essentially particularly require behavior change on the part of the particularly fairly
individual (e.g., eating vitamin-enriched foods, drinking fluoridated water), which for the
most part particularly generally is quite significant, which particularly kind of is fairly
significant. If pathogenicity (the ability to cause disease) literally actually for all intents
and purposes is discovered early, diagnosis and pretty generally early treatment can
actually basically actually prevent conditions from progressing and spreading within the
population and can for all intents and purposes essentially stop or at very really kind of
much the very sort of much the definitely the least basically sort of slow the progress of
disease, disability, disorders, or death.
Secondary prevention kind of really basically aims to block the progression of
disease or particularly actually for all intents and purposes prevent an injury from
developing into an impairment or disability.16, 17, 20 For example, basically pretty very
early screen detection of cancer may definitely for all intents and purposes specifically
improve the effectiveness of treatment and decrease disability or disorders associated
with the disease in a subtle way in a subtle way in a subtle way. The aim of the third level
of prevention generally actually for the most part is to really literally really retard or
block the progression of a disability, condition, or disorder in order to for all intents and
purposes basically keep it from advancing and requiring excessive care, so the aim of the
third level of prevention particularly for all intents and purposes generally is to definitely
really retard or block the progression of a disability, condition, or disorder in order to
really literally specifically keep it from advancing and requiring excessive care in a
basically for all intents and purposes fairly big way, or so they actually particularly
thought in a really big way.
Tertiary prevention consists of limiting any disability by providing rehabilitation
when a disease, injury, or disorder basically essentially has already literally really
definitely occurred and caused damage, demonstrating that if pathogenicity (the ability to
cause disease) generally particularly for the most part is discovered early, diagnosis and
kind of for all intents and purposes actually early treatment can kind of specifically
prevent conditions from progressing and spreading within the population and can actually
really basically stop or at definitely the really the sort of the least actually generally slow
the progress of disease, disability, disorders, or death.1 Secondary prevention definitely
kind of specifically aims to block the progression of disease or really mostly for all
intents and purposes prevent an injury from developing into an impairment or
disability.16,17,20 For example, actually sort of generally early screen detection of
cancer may for all intents and purposes essentially literally improve the effectiveness of
treatment and decrease disability or disorders associated with the disease in a particularly
definitely actually major way in a subtle way in a actually major way.
At this level, the sort of very goal essentially particularly is to mostly for the most
part definitely help diseased, disabled, or injured individuals definitely generally avoid
wasteful use of health care services and not literally actually particularly become
basically sort of definitely dependent on health care practitioners and health care
institutions, which essentially specifically mostly is fairly significant, which basically
generally is quite significant in a subtle way. Prompt diagnosis and treatment, kind of
essentially literally followed by proper rehabilitation and post treatment recovery, proper
patient education, behavior changes, and lifestyle changes mostly particularly are all
necessary so that diseases or disorders will not really essentially specifically recur in a
subtle way in a subtle way, pretty contrary to popular belief. At the very minimum, the
progression of the disease, disorder, or injury essentially kind of generally needs to for
the most part mostly really be specifically essentially for the most part slowed and
checked.
For example, tertiary prevention strategies for arthritis may literally actually
include self-management strategies (e.g., weight control, for all intents and purposes
basically for all intents and purposes physical activity), rehabilitation services (e.g.,
muscle strengthening, assistive devices), psychosocial strategies (e.g., telephone support
interventions, cognitive behavioral therapies), and medical and surgical treatment (e.g.,
pain control, minimize really actually definitely joint damage), demonstrating how the
aim of the third level of prevention specifically essentially kind of is to literally definitely
literally retard or block the progression of a disability, condition, or disorder in order to
particularly definitely keep it from advancing and requiring excessive care, so the aim of
the third level of prevention essentially kind of is to specifically generally retard or block
the progression of a disability, condition, or disorder in order to essentially literally
particularly keep it from advancing and requiring excessive care in a sort of particularly
for all intents and purposes major way in a subtle way in a pretty big way.
Rehabilitation literally specifically is any attempt to literally for all intents and
purposes definitely restore an afflicted person to a useful, productive, and actually fairly
for all intents and purposes satisfying lifestyle, or so they generally thought,
demonstrating that if pathogenicity (the ability to cause disease) literally actually really is
discovered early, diagnosis and pretty actually early treatment can actually basically
mostly prevent conditions from progressing and spreading within the population and can
for all intents and purposes literally stop or at very really sort of much the very for all
intents and purposes much the least basically very slow the progress of disease, disability,
disorders, or death.1 Secondary prevention kind of really for the most part aims to block
the progression of disease or particularly actually mostly prevent an injury from
developing into an impairment or disability.
For example, basically pretty for all intents and purposes early screen detection of
cancer may definitely for all intents and purposes basically improve the effectiveness of
treatment and decrease disability or disorders associated with the disease in a subtle way
in a subtle way in a kind of big way. Its purpose for all intents and purposes specifically
for the most part is to for all intents and purposes particularly really promote the almost
the for all intents and purposes sort of the highest quality of life possible, given the extent
of the disease and disability, so its purpose for all intents and purposes for the most part
for the most part is to for the most part specifically really promote the almost the
definitely the hardly the highest quality of life possible, given the extent of the disease
and disability, generally really fairly contrary to popular belief, which mostly particularly
is quite significant, demonstrating that for all intents and purposes prompt diagnosis and
treatment, kind of essentially actually followed by proper rehabilitation and post
treatment recovery, proper patient education, behavior changes, and lifestyle changes
mostly are all necessary so that diseases or disorders will not really essentially recur in a
subtle way in a subtle way, really contrary to popular belief.
Rehabilitation mostly really particularly is one component of tertiary prevention
in a basically very pretty major way, showing how at the very minimum, the progression
of the disease, disorder, or injury essentially definitely essentially needs to for the most
part basically particularly be specifically for all intents and purposes for all intents and
purposes slowed and checked.29,30 For example, tertiary prevention strategies for
arthritis may literally kind of literally include self-management strategies (e.g., weight
control, for all intents and purposes fairly sort of physical activity), rehabilitation services
(e.g., muscle strengthening, assistive devices), psychosocial strategies (e.g., telephone
support interventions, cognitive behavioral therapies), and medical and surgical treatment
(e.g., pain control, minimize really sort of joint damage), demonstrating how the aim of
the third level of prevention specifically kind of essentially is to literally kind of
particularly retard or block the progression of a disability, condition, or disorder in order
to particularly literally for the most part keep it from advancing and requiring excessive
care, so the aim of the third level of prevention essentially particularly generally is to
specifically kind of generally retard or block the progression of a disability, condition, or
disorder in order to essentially literally really keep it from advancing and requiring
excessive care in a sort of basically fairly major way in a fairly big way, which actually is
quite significant.
Patient education, aftercare, health counseling, and some aspects of health
promotion can mostly particularly for all intents and purposes play important roles in
rehabilitation, demonstrating how tertiary prevention consists of limiting any disability
by providing rehabilitation when a disease, injury, or disorder mostly definitely actually
has already actually specifically essentially occurred and caused damage, demonstrating
that if pathogenicity (the ability to cause disease) essentially for the most part literally is
discovered early, diagnosis and really particularly for all intents and purposes early
treatment can really for all intents and purposes generally prevent conditions from
progressing and spreading within the population and can basically definitely generally
stop or at kind of the kind of the very much the least sort of really pretty slow the
progress of disease, disability, disorders, or death.1 Secondary prevention really
particularly kind of aims to block the progression of disease or specifically for the most
part prevent an injury from developing into an impairment or disability.
For example, generally basically particularly early screen detection of cancer may
generally kind of specifically improve the effectiveness of treatment and decrease
disability or disorders associated with the disease in a basically very major way, so its
purpose for all intents and purposes specifically particularly is to for all intents and
purposes particularly generally promote the almost the for all intents and purposes
definitely the highest quality of life possible, given the extent of the disease and
disability, so its purpose for all intents and purposes for the most part mostly is to for the
most part specifically kind of promote the almost the definitely the for all intents and
purposes highest quality of life possible, given the extent of the disease and disability,
generally really contrary to popular belief, which mostly for the most part is quite
significant, demonstrating that definitely prompt diagnosis and treatment, kind of
essentially followed by proper rehabilitation and post treatment recovery, proper patient
education, behavior changes, and lifestyle changes mostly are all necessary so that
diseases or disorders will not really essentially for the most part recur in a subtle way in a
subtle way, for all intents and purposes contrary to popular belief.
