Abstract
There are many threats to face each day throughout the world. The disaster management process
will be explored in the phases of mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. The Federal
Emergency Management Agency is an organization within the Department of Homeland Security
which helps communities in emergencies. There needs to be proper planning and there needs to
be a process in which it is favorable for all the communities that are involved in any type of
disaster. Some of the deadliest are natural disasters like Hurricane Harvey from 2017. This
hurricane was one of the costliest disasters to hurt the United States in decades. There are many
disasters that have occurred that have made these organizations prepare for an event like
Hurricane Harvey. The path of this natural disaster did not leave much room for communities to
react and respond, but there were measures that could have been taken to lessen the damage. The
mitigation and preparation are important phases of disaster management that need to be explored
more than they currently are. It is important that communities are comfortable knowing that the
government is doing everything possible to make sure people are safe during natural disasters.
