Westerkamp, Marilyn J. The Passion of Anne Hutchinson an Extraordinary Woman, the Puritan
Patriarchs, and the World They Made and Lost. New York, NY: Oxford University Press, 2021.
This biography of Anne Hutchinson talks about her life as a spiritual leader and women rights
pioneer. It shows how she was very outspoken and how she challenged the religious beliefs of the
Puritan leaders in early Massachusetts Bay Colony. It also shows how Governor Winthrop tried to
stop people from believing freely in what they chose and force the puritan belief system upon them
including Anne Hutchinson.
McGunigal, Lisa. "The Criminal Trial of Anne Hutchinson: Ritual, Religion, and Law." Mosaic
(Winnipeg) 49, no. 2 (2016): 149.
In this peer reviewed article the author looks at the different ways that Anne Hutchinson was
denied due process according to the law of the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1637. She used
scholarly resources and information that was referenced in her article. This is a good article to
inform people about Anne Hutchinson being a pioneer in women’s rights and religious freedom.
Christ, Carol P. Quaker Ancestor Buys 6 Year-Old Indian Captive by Carol P. Christ. Claremont:
Newstex, 2020.
This is a great article on a weblog. Author Carol Christ takes you on a journey through
colonial times and talks about how Anne Hutchinson became a feminist theologian. This author
is very credible because she has a 9x great grandfather, that was named William Wodell and he
was made to turn in his guns by the Puritans. The reason why was because he was being led
astray by none other than Anne Hutchinson.
