Devotional Analysis
The devotional analysis of my family will be more entwined through the devotion of the Bible
but more particularly Joshua 1:9, which has been the foundation to which our rock rests if you will. This
particular verse has been the focal point to my family back to the great grandparents and I believe the
challenges they went through, and the constant amazing grace God bestowed just further blessed this
verse in their hearts and mine. If you are not familiar, it states,” Have I not commanded you? Be
strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be
with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9, Bible). Throughout my family line there where many
occasions in which I felt this would be the most appropriate verse applied, not to say it was
Gods will or his ”plan” but more for the main point of the verse.
It is Gods will that we are to obey and follow. Humans, my ancestors, and I all have this
natural desire to make plans for our future and believe that they must be carried out. However,
if it is not Gods will, and he doesn’t wish us to follow that set path we must trust him and know
that he is with us and will be with us throughout not just the good times but the struggles that
seem to pull us down. Joshua 1:9 emphasizes this note to us quite clearly. There were many
cases when my ancestors were coming from other countries that they could have felt
discouraged and afraid, yet God provided, and they made it through. When my great uncles had
to go fight in WWII, they all came home afterwords, which seemed to be an act of grace from
God. Throughout the fear and discouragement, the world put forth, our connection and
devotion to God became stronger and through the pain that his love and guidance was felt
deeper. Joshua 1:9 reminds us that God is with us, he hears us, and he understands so much
more than we will ever come to understand.
