Assignment: Attacks on Christianity
Over time, our government has become less and less biblical-oriented. Over this course
of time, our government and nation has become more chaotic. There is most definitely a
connection between the two. Christianity is barely involved in the government anymore, and
attacks on Christianity have become more prominent.
Differing Outlooks
Ronald Reagan’s view of America was strong and positive. As presented by Tim
Goeglien, Reagan viewed America as a <shining city on a hill=. Reagan spoke those words which
were once spoken by John Winthrop. The phrase <city on a hill= was coined from Matthew 5:
14-16, which goes to say this:
<14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do
men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all
that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works,
and glorify your Father which is in heaven.=- Matthew 5: 14-16, KJV
Joe Biden, our current president, has an extremely different view of America compared to
Reagan. Biden views America as a work in progress—a construction site, per se. Biden also
believes that most Biblical principles shouldn’t be applied to governmental matters, as shown by
multiple choices he has made.

Attacks on Christian Foundations
According to Goeglien, there are three major attacks on Christianity. These consist of the
institution of marriage, abortion, and religious liberty. All three of these attacks are still ongoing,
and are becoming more and more prominent. For instance, in 1973, an infamous case, Roe v.
Wade, ruled that abortion was constitutional, therefore making it legal. According to the Bible,
the murder of an innocent being is against God’s law.

Reinforcement of Gay Marriage
In 2015, the Supreme Court ruled that gay marriage was legal in all 50 states. I personally
believe that this is not an attack on Christianity, but an advancement in the right direction.
According to Galatians 3:28, <There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free,
there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.= This means that no matter our
race, sexuality, beliefs, etc., we are all one, and we should treat each other as so. In 2012, a cake
shop in Colorado rejected a request to make a cake for a gay marriage. This is obviously
discrimination, and discrimination goes against God’s law.
Conclusion
I believe that this country is moving in the right direction, as long as morals go.
Economically, not so much. We, as Christians, should love and accept all, which is what God
instructs us to do. To help lead in the right direction, I must encourage others to follow the word
of God, to not discriminate against others, and to not leave any room in their lives for hatred,
whatsoever.
