Presentation Assessment: Attacks on Christianity Assignment
Presentation 2: Attacks on Christianity
Tim Goerglein taught a lecture and a Liberty University Class and spoke about the attacks
on Christianity in our country. He noted that our country was founded upon Biblical principles
yet over the years, America has progressively forgotten its roots and has given in to the secular
world. Goerglein discussed how he had faith in the generation today that America would soon go
back to its roots and begin to represent who God is and what He has done for us through His
Son.
President Reagan outlook v. President Biden
In the presentation by Tim Goerglein, he started off by saying how when he was in
Washington, he was surrounded by people that that were in the mindset that the best days of
America were behind us (Goerdlein, 2013). People no longer have faith in the government today
that they did back when America was first founded. The former tragedies of war for the United
States and the disasters that held America together were no longer taken into consideration of the
purpose of America to its people. Out of nowhere, Ronald Reagan, a former actor, became the
Governor of the state of California (Goerdlein, 2013).
President Reagan had a different outlook on life than that of his comraderies. He loved
America for what it was, but he also saw how corrupt company could ruin what America had.
President Reagan described America as “a city shining on a hill” (Goerdlein, 2013). In that time,
people of America did not understand the thought process of their president. They had just
endured my trails and devastation and for their president to describe America as such was
baffling. President Reagans outlook on America was biblical and conflicting in the eyes of
America.

President Biden and President Reagan share both similarities and differences. President
Reagan formed his beliefs and regulation on the Bible, whereas President Joe Biden has shown
little attention to basing anything that he does according to what Scripture has to say despite the
fact that President Joe Biden emphasized his Catholicism far more than any Catholic candidate in
American history (Campbell, J., & Layman, 2020). President Biden does not believe that
government and religion go hand and hand as it was for President Ronald Reagan. Lastly,
President Biden felt America has lost its way whereas President Reagan felt the America was the
shining example of what freedom should be represented as.
Three Major Attacks on the Christian Foundations of America.
(Name a Supreme Court decision which legitimized the attack and when it was rendered)
The three major attacks on the Christian foundations of America are:
- The institution of marriage
Therefore, a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall
become one flesh. – Genesis 2:24 (English Standard Version, 2001).
- Abortion – Roe vs. Wade of 1973
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for
I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. -
Psalm 139:13-14 (ESV, 2001).
4
- Religious Liberty and Rights of Conscience
For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for
the flesh, but through love serve one another. – Galatians 5:13 (ESV, 2001).
Abortion
Abortion has been a hot topic ever since Roe vs. Wade had been put into place, allowing
mothers to terminate their child at any stage in the pregnancy without probable cause. Roe vs.
Wade is currently and recently been overturned and given back to the states to decide if they
want to make abortion illegal. In Exodus 20:13, one of the Ten Commandments that God gave to
Moses and the Israelites was “You shall not murder” (ESV, n.d.). This includes any voluntary
abortion of a child at any stage in the pregnancy.
The Texas Abortion Law was declined by the U.S> Supreme Court on September 1,
2021, “The US Supreme Court declined to block a Texas fetal heartbeat law, which virtually
eliminates access to abortion services in Texas” (Cohen, Adashi., & Gostin, 2021). This case
brought up in order to eliminate abortion as soon as a heartbeat could be detected. Unfortunately,
this case was not in the Courts favor and was rejected by The Supreme Court. Dobbs v. Jackson
Women’s Health Organization, “a case challenging the Mississippi law imposing a ban on the
provision of abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy for most individuals” (Rhode Island Medical
Journal, 2021). This case was granted by The Supreme court on June 24, 2022, and ultimately
led to the overturn of the Roe v. Wade of 1973 and Planned Parenthood v. Casey of 1992 (Rhode
Island Medical Journal, 2021).

Conclusion
Honestly, I try not to think too much about the politics of this country, but I find myself
more and more in the middle of everything mainly because I am in the military and there is no
running from it. The truth in the matter is that I believe that this country keeps progressing and
regressing with every step. The government seems to want to control every aspect of our lives
and when we speak up, we are quickly silenced by our own peers. People are ready to jump
down each other’s throats on social media and do not see that if you do not make an actual effort
to change things, then you will get nowhere.
As a believer in this world at this time, there is much I can do to help others see who God
is to me. I demonstrate through how I treat others and how I live. The Navy is not the godliest
place to be but if others can see the difference in the way that I live, that is already one step
closer to God.
