Relativism states that all points of views are correct, no matter the stance. For instance
no matter your moral positions, religious systems, art forms, political movements, etc.; all are
truths for this category. If we simply look at this and compare it to our culture today, we can see
how the rejection of Christ can have a huge impact on judicial system. Society today
encourages sinful behaviors that were once seen as wrong, are now socially acceptable. Process
philosophy really is considered all theories can go philosophy. Relativism is impacting
everything in our society, our homes, schools, economy. The biggest way to explain relativism is
just because it is your truth, does not mean it is my truth. Something I may like may be
something you do not. Just because I like it and you do not, does not mean either one of us is
incorrect. Therefore, if everything is relative then there cannot be absolute truths.
When you consider all the facts that relativism influences process philosophy, and
analyze how that would affect civil rights in America, specifically in regards to protecting civil
rights. Process philosophy could really affect how criminals are punished. If you no longer
consider any of the prior civil cases, and any of the laws, process philosophy would allow for a
judge to free a criminal all because of life factors. “The judge, steeped in process thinking, will
presuppose that the person is a product of his or her environment or material constituency, and
therefore, that the person cannot, in the final analysis, be held responsible for his or her
behavior” (Martin, 2006, p. 211). This would skyrocket the crime rate in particular areas, and
ultimately create anarchy. There would be no such thing as crime because nothing would be
wrong or right.
Process philosophy has been an essential part of our education system for quite some
time. “For the last century and a half, it has been process philosophy which has been filtering
down from the intellectual community into the general culture” (Martin, 2006, p.153). State
controlled educational systems are part of the Marxist theory. And after the state controlled the
educational system, Fabian socialists used it to establish process philosophy. This would help
egalitarian society where class conflicts could make for better equal opportunities for students.
With this type of control, it allows for the state to teach whatever they want and manipulate what
is being taught. “Process philosophy establishment in the United States and the rest of the world
has dominated the flow of information more thoroughly than any previous establishment to date”
(Martin, 2006, p.234). This allows for a lot of different things to happen. First, students do not
have to think for themselves, and decide if the information that is being presented to them is
actually true. For example, schools today teach evolution. Second, this will allow for teachers to
decide if you really know the material versus standardized testing. The “no child left behind”
system really follows along with the process philosophy in the educational system. It is very
subjective, and just because it is not right to one person, it may be right to another person.
The impacts that the educational system can have on the family life can be detrimental.
Not only are kids learning things that possibly goes against their religion, they are away from
their families 80% of the week. When do they have time to sit down with their parents, and
allow for parents to teach their truths. This can really break up families in the long run. Parents
will need to stay on top of what their kids are learning so that the educational system does not
influence them away from their religions. Process philosophy is teaching children that life truly
has no meaning, and anything that is done on earth does not matter. This is a worldview where
there is no God. It also breaks up families because it teaches
