Process philosophy has become the way of thinking for most of the world. Process
philosophy all started during the American Revolution. The intellectual community was deprived
from the war and the failure of Romanticism-Transcendentalism. This brought forth the birth of
process philosophy. It brought out a new way of thinking because they thought the way they had
been thinking was all wrong. So, how have some facets of process philosophy impacted
American government or society? This essay will be describing how the facets of process
philosophy have impacted American government and society.
Process philosophy was brought out from three overpowering revolutions. The first is the
shift from theo- to anthropocentrism-from God-centeredness to a man-centeredness. The second
is the shift from a presupposed absolute to a presupposed process philosophy. The third is the
shift from an antithetical to a synthetic mentality and way of thinking (Martin, 2006, 150). With
this in mind it brought forth the ideas of process philosophy that man is the center, there is
nothing absolute, everything is changing, and that conflict is the essence of change to progress
society. Marxism is one of four main ideologies that was considered process philosophy.
Marxism still continues strongly today without us even knowing. Marxism changed our way of
thinking. Marxism has revolutionized our thinking from party platforms to families. Glenn
Martin gives a good example on how Marxism has affected families even today by saying that
parents born prior to World War II were born in a time where there was still an antithetical
mentality, but children born after World War II developed a synthetic mentality. Martin proceeds
GOVT 200
with the example by saying that if you told a young lady to “be good” before World War II that
would be recognized as to not do certain things which were considered bad. A young lady born
after World War II that was told “be good” would think of it as do as you will and have fun
(Martin, 2006, 159). This is true even to today because anytime my parents told me to be good I
took it as the same context a synthetic Marxist would and that is do as you will. Marxism
presupposes that change is progress and that all change is progressive. This is why
representatives of parties offer change in all of their campaigns because Marxism has brought us
to believe that change is progressive. This presupposition even affects families and marriage and
can cause damage to the marriage or children because the couple will believe that they are not
happy so they believe the only way to fix it is to change to another person, town, or job. The
presupposition that change is progressive is only one of the presuppositions that the world
believes today. Marxism also brings us to believe that some regression will bring progression.
Ultimately the presupposition that conflict is the essence of change and the dynamic of progress
(Martin, 2006, 163). Marxism believes that only conflict can bring ultimate progress. This is
when a thesis and an antithesis collide reaching a critical nodal point and creating a synthesis
which in turn creates another thesis and antithesis which leads to another critical nodal point to
another synthesis so on and so forth. This applies to almost everything in our world today. If a
specific piece of law is passed to protect something there is always going to be someone or
something rise up against it which in turn the law gets re-created or destroyed to compensate for
everyone and everything. Marxism believes that eventually society will reach perfection through
conflict and this perfection will eventually lead to communism where everyone is perfect. This
idea of human perfection on earth has affected families greatly throughout the world. It creates
this sense of a fake bar that is presumed reachable but it actually isn’t because it doesn’t exist.

We will believe that we can reach this ultimate happiness and perfection if we just do this or just
do that and once we do those things we come to figure out that it is not satisfactory so the cycle
continues and we find something else to indulge in to try and reach this imaginary bar. This is
why the facets of process philosophy will never be ultimate. For only through the biblical
worldview can we reach eternal perfection and happiness. The biblical worldview brings us
peace and restoration that we can achieve perfection and happiness fully.
The facets of process philosophy, specifically Marxism, has impacted the world as a
whole. The ideas that we as man can achieve perfection through conflict has changed the
thoughts of families all through the world. Families have lost sight that only through a Biblical
Worldview can they achieve perfection and happiness. Marxism has brought us to believe that
there is no absolute truth only change.
