Over time the idea of family and marriage has been distorted by society. Hebrews 13:4
tells us “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge
the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.” In today’s society it is so commonplace to hear
about marriage in forms such as homosexual marriage and polygamist marriage. These are not
concepts that God condones or endorses. A large cause of society coming to think this way was
people like Marx and his beliefs. Marx believed that God and the Bible were like a drug to
control people.
One of Marx’s beliefs was that progress is inherent in change (Martin, 2006, p. 162).
By this he meant that nothing in society can progress unless it is also changing. Based on this
way of thinking people began to believe that the idea of God’s word and law were concepts that
were outdated and needed to change in order to move forward. In today’s society people have
altered and manipulated God’s concept of family and marriage to fit with their chosen lifestyle.
An example of this is the growing acceptance of gay marriage. While the Bible clearly tells us
in Leviticus 18:22 “Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is
detestable,” many people today don’t believe that homosexuality is a sin. It has become widely
accepted that in these progressive times homosexuality was okay. It is terrifying to see so many
