Genesis 1:26-28: Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that
they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild
animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his
own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed
them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over
the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the
ground.”
Genesis 2:7: Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into
his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
Genesis 2:18-25: The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a
helper suitable for him.” Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals
and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and
whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. So the man gave names to all the
livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals. But for Adam no suitable helper was
found. So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he
took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. Then the LORD God made a
woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said,
“This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was
taken out of man.” That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and
they become one flesh. Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
Exodus 20:14: You shall not commit adultery.
Deuteronomy 4:9: Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget
the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach
them to your children and to their children after them.
Deuteronomy 5:18: You shall not commit adultery.
Deuteronomy 6:1-9: These are the commands, decrees and laws the LORD your God directed
me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, so that you,
your children and their children after them may fear the LORD your God as long as you live by
keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life. Hear,
Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly
in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your ancestors, promised
you. Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all
your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give
you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you
sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie
them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes
of your houses and on your gates.
Psalm 127: Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD
watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat—for he grants sleep to those he loves. Children are a heritage from the
LORD, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in
one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame
when they contend with their opponents in court.
Psalm 128: Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in obedience to him. You will eat the
fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine
within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. Yes, this will be the
blessing for the man who fears the LORD. May the LORD bless you from Zion; may you see the
prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life. May you live to see your children’s children—
peace be on Israel.
Proverbs 5:15-20: Drink water from your own cistern, running water from your own well.
Should your springs overflow in the streets, your streams of water in the public squares? Let
them be yours alone, never to be shared with strangers. May your fountain be blessed, and may
you rejoice in the wife of your youth. A loving doe, a graceful deer—may her breasts satisfy
you always, may you ever be intoxicated with her love. Why, my son, be intoxicated with
another man’s wife? Why embrace the bosom of a wayward woman?
Proverbs 15:1: A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
Proverbs 24:3-4: By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established;
through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.
Proverbs 31:10-12: A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.
Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not
harm, all the days of her life.
Proverbs 31:28-30: Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:
“Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceptive, and beauty is
fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
Song of Solomon 1:2-4: Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—for your love is more
delightful than wine. Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes; your name is like perfume
poured out. No wonder the young women love you! Take me away with you—let us hurry! Let
the king bring me into his chambers.

1 Corinthians 7:1-9: Now for the matters you wrote about: “It is good for a man not to have
sexual relations with a woman.” But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should
have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband. The husband
should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife does
not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband
does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife. Do not deprive each other
except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer.
Then
come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. I say
this as a concession, not as a command. I wish that all of you were as I am. But each of you has
your own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that. Now to the unmarried and the
widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I do. But if they cannot control
themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.
2 Corinthians 6:14-18: Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do
righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with
darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in
common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols?
For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk
among them, and I
will be their God, and they will be my people.” Therefore, “Come out from them and be separate,
says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.” And, “I will be a Father to you,
and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”
Ephesians 4:31-32: Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with
every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in
Christ God forgave you.
Ephesians 5:21-6:4: Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, submit
yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife
as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church
submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love
your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy,
cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a
radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this
same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves
himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as
Christ does the church—or we are members of his body. “For this reason a man will leave his
father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” This is a
profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also
must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. Children, obey
your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first
commandment with a promise—“so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long
life on the earth.” Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training
and instruction of the Lord.
Colossians 3:12-14: Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe
yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other
and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord
forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect
unity.
Colossians 3:18-21: Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. Children, obey your parents in
everything, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become
discouraged.
Hebrews 10:25: not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but
encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Hebrews 13:4: Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will
judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.
1 Peter 3:1-7: Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of
them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their
wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. Your beauty should not come from
outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes.
Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit,
which is of great worth in God’s sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put
their hope in God used to adorn themselves. They submitted themselves to their own husbands,
like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her lord. You are her daughters if you do what
is right and do not give way to fear. Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with
your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the
gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.
