GBST 103- DB3 The Character of God
Reflect on Exodus 34:6–7 (also Numbers 14:18–19). Explain characteristics of God about Himself noting His
righteousness and which show His grace—slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love, forgiving iniquity and
transgression, will by no means clear guilt, and iniquity of fathers on children to 3rd and 4th generation. Can
we, as humans, demonstrate righteousness and grace at the same time to mimic Yahweh? In your post define
how you use “righteousness” and “grace.”

The character of God is the center of all Christianity as is the life of the believer who is to
lead a life and share the Gospels. We are to strive to have a life pleasing to God that
brings Him honor and glory. We do this by “walking in God’s light” as He is the light, the
life and the evermore. God is the creator of everything there is and will ever be! I for one
have experienced the Character of God fist hand in dealing with all my medical issues, in
turn my passion for teaching all that God’s word is to be understood and followed to the
letter without reading into or assuming what the scriptures mean. If God wanted us to
know more, he would have revealed it to us. Our lives are for us to seek to be like Him
every day!
In our scriptures this week Exodus 34:6-7 (ESV) Moses has made new tablets and God
stated to Moses “The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God
merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steady love and faithfulness,
keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but
who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children
and the children’s children, to the third and fourth generation“. Then Moses again
intercedes for the people to God repeats this in Numbers 14:18 (ESV). God also adds
more in Numbers 14:19 (ESV) “Please pardon the iniquity of this people, according to the
greatness of your steadfast love, just as you have forgiven this people, from Egypt until
now”.
These scriptures are very profound and show that God is light, and the Apostle John used
this word to make us aware of the power of the Character of God. Even in the Old
Testament, John used these to paint the picture for us to better understand the Character
of God as light. He is the light of our lives and the entire world; we can only pray and
hope that a lot more of the world repents and acknowledges the fact that Jesus is the
way and the light before it is too late.
God’s Character is light which is also manifested in Exodus 3:1-6; 13:21-22 and in Psalms
104:2-4 (ESV) where Solomon paints a picture for us that God is clothed in garments of
light and is also referred to in 1 Tim 6:16 (ESV) as being the on that is righteous, pure
and Holy. The written and spoken word of God gives light to His Character, as the
scripture give us moral guidance and direction for living on earth and are the basis
(Bible=Basic-Instructions-Before-Leaving-Earth) for our eternal life in heaven. God
provides us with light to see where we are going in the day and in the darkness. God
character shows us in Psalms 36:9 (ESV) “For with you is the fountain of life; in your light
do we see light”.
God’s light leads us on a path to know and understand God. Even the words of Jesus
testifies to the God who is light.
