Topic: Bioenergetics and Maximal Oxygen Consumption
1) Comment on how bioenergetics and maximal oxygen consumption are both
important for an individual to “physically” run a race in a rather successful
manner.
Bioenergetics is the study of energy transformations in living organisms. Energy is not
created or destroyed, instead transformed from one form to another. Energy is required to
do work, such as breathing, thermoregulation, nerve impulse transmission, building and
breaking down tissue, etc. Energy is stored in ATP that we use to power muscular activity.
For example, the longer and intense a workout is, the more ATP is used to perform that
activity. Therefore, to successfully physically run a race, a person must be able to
maximize oxygen consumption and the production of ATP. ATP is not the only energy-
carrying molecule in the cell, it is the most important one, and without sufficient amounts
of ATP, most cells die quickly (Howley E.T. & Powers S. K., 2018). ATP is produced
from three systems: glycolysis, Citric Acid Cycle, and oxidation). Having high oxygen
consumption will increase any aerobic endurance activity such as running.
2) Discuss why it is important that we have a healthy lifestyle that will allow us
to “run the race” and lead the life that Jesus wants us to lead until we finish
“the race.” Explain how a “healthy lifestyle” is related to maximal oxygen
consumption.
It’s important to have a healthy lifestyle because our body is a temple.
God created humans with a unique systems that all work together to properly function.
Moreover, a healthy lifestyle is related to maximal oxygen consumption and overall good
cardiovascular condition. Living a healthy lifestyle coincides with feeling healthy,
energized, and jubilant. Furthermore, God has given everyone a purpose in life, so we
have to live right and healthy to do what God has for us. Endurance, nutrition, and rest
are a few key factors in successfully run a race. Consuming carbohydrates, protein, and
fat will help provide energy to maintain cellular. Moreover, carbohydrates and fats are
primarily used for energy thus; eating a lot of carbohydrates will provide energy needed
to “run the race”.
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom
you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price.
Therefore honor God with your bodies. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all
endurance and patience with joy. (Colossians 1:11)
Bioenergetics is the study of energy transformations in living organisms. Each
process of the body and energy is required to do each of them such as each body system.
Energy is not created or destroyed, instead transformed from one form to another. Energy
is required to do work, such as breathing, thermoregulation, nerve impulse transmission,
building and breaking down tissue, etc. Energy is stored in ATP that people use to power
muscular activity. For example, intense and long workouts use more ATP to sustain and
perform that activity. Therefore, to successfully physically run a race, a person must be
able to maximize oxygen consumption and the production of ATP.
ATP is not the only energy-carrying molecule in the cell, it is the most important
one, and without sufficient amounts of ATP, most cells die quickly (Howley E.T. &
Powers S. K., 2018). ATP is produced from three systems: glycolysis, Citric Acid Cycle,
and oxidation). However, during glycolysis ATP is rapidly produced and it does not
involve the use of oxygen. The Citric Acid Cycle function is to complete oxidation
(hydrogen removal) of carbohydrates, fats, or proteins using NAD+ and FAD as
hydrogen carriers. Lastly, oxidation is the process of oxidizing fatty acid to form acetyl-
CoA. In addition, having high oxygen consumption will allow people to last longer in
activities such as running.
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom
you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price.
Therefore honor God with your bodies. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
It’s important to have a healthy lifestyle on the account of the body is a temple.
God created life with unique systems that all work together to properly function, thus
giving humans life. Moreover, a healthy lifestyle is related to maximal oxygen
consumption and overall good cardiovascular condition. Living a healthy lifestyle
coincides with feeling healthy, energized, and happy for example, as a former athlete, I
found myself the happiest when I ate healthier.
Furthermore, God has given everyone a purpose in life, for humans to live right
and be healthy to do what God has for us. Endurance, nutrition, and rest are a few key
factors to successfully run a race. Consuming carbohydrates, protein, and fat will help
provide energy to maintain cellular. Moreover, carbohydrates and fats are primarily used
for energy, thus; eating a lot of carbohydrates will provide the energy needed to “run the
race”.
May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all
endurance and patience with joy. (Colossians 1:11)
