When I think back on my life and my conversion to become a Disciple of Jesus Christ, I have
come to realize that it came in two parts. Yes, I truly feel like the blind man at Bethsaida, who
needed Jesus to touch him twice to see. Accepting Jesus was my first touch but committing to
and living for Him was my second touch.
I wasn’t always a Christian. This is a statement that I have used many times and I have often
heard from other Christians. However, for me, it is one that I can say is not all the way true. The
following statement can be seen in many obituaries at funerals of people who died in the black
community. I gave my life to Christ at an early age, I was baptized around the age of 8 when me
and my cousins decided it was time for us to join the church. This was because growing up I
was raised by an evangelist and other laborers within the church. I grew up in a strictly Biblically
formed household. My mother, grandparents, great-grandmother, and other close family
members raised me to follow the doctrines of the Baptist Church and the Church of God in
Christ. Which formed me to later in life become a Full Gospel Baptist.
Moreover, a question that I am asked often is when I realized that I needed Jesus in my life. As I
stated before I came to Jesus twice, once as a child and then as an adult. Growing up I was in the
church; however, the church was not in me. Furthermore, I was a believer, but I was living life
like the prodigal son. My mother died when I was 22, and I turned my back on God even more.
However, even during this time, God had His angels watching over me. He even gave me signs
that He had a plan for me.
God reached me the only way I would listen to Him. I was a young police officer and had an out-
of-body experience, I was involved in a motorcycle accident and spoke to an angel. It was at that
point I recommitted myself to God and began to do His will for me in my life.

If you were to ask me what the biggest change in my life since I truly committed to Christ, I
would say the fact that I serve Him. I will be honest since I have given my life to Christ, I have
faced many difficult times. My faith has been tested several times, yet I am still holding on. God
has continued to be the focus of my Life. I had some ups and downs, but I had to learn to trust
God.
I don’t want to come off sounding preachy, but the Bible says in Psalms 37: 25: I was young and
now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging for bread.1
God has proven to me time and time again that He will always provide. No matter how bad I
thought I was, no matter how much I went against His will. God has shown His love for me
through His grace and mercy.
