1. “I have not always been a Christian.”
I grew up in a small and loving family in Los Angeles. I was raised in Catholic and
Russian orthodox. While growing up, I personally believed in Jesus Christ and tried to be a
good and obedient Christian girl by going to the church every Sunday and doing
confessions on a regular basis. Even though I wanted to read the Bible to feel closer to the
Almighty, it was not encouraged in my home (Bible Verses Of Comfort For Persons With
A Mental Illness, N.D.). So, I believed that by simply listening to what the priests taught in
the sermons I would get a deeper insight into the words of Christ.
2. “I realized I needed Jesus and received Him into my life
At the age of 10, a number of changes took place in my life which changed my
equation and relationship with Jesus Christ. My father took the decision to place me in a
private Christian school. Before me, no one in my family had studied in a Christian school
before so it was a major change for me as well as my family. I had heard of Christian
education before but I was not aware of how it was different from any other kind of
education.
Once I went to the school, I felt very connected with the entire environment. Soon
questions started to bother me such as why the church which I visited with my family was
completely different than that of the school. During a moral science class, one of my
teachers stated that it is extremely important for everyone to have a close relationship with
Jesus Christ. She said that if we preach Jesus sincerely then we can hear his voice while
reading his words and message (Bible Verses Of Comfort For Persons With A Mental
Illness, N.D.). Jesus is the ultimate truth that existed and one could go to heaven only by
having complete faith in Christ and his death and resurrection. This insight of the teacher
played a key role to mold my thinking about Christianity. I wanted to start having personal
conversations with Christ but did not know how to do it. Previously I was thinking that I

was a good Christian girl but the views of my teacher made me think that I knew very little
about Christianity and Jesus Christ.
In order to address the questions and thoughts that bothered me, I made it a point to
talk to the teacher after classes. She was really kind and open to share her thoughts about
Jesus Christ. Her views showed that she shared an honest and loving relationship with
Christ. She showed me some Bible verses like John 3:16, John 14:6, and Romans 3:23. It
took me two months to study these verses and understand the words and message of the
Lord. Since I used to study these Bible verses after my academic work, it took me this long
to cover the verses that were shared by my teacher. But the experience was life-changing
and enriching. I realized that I needed Jesus Christ and I received Him into my life. I felt
very complete and happy since then and my outlook towards life changed completely. c c c c
3. “The biggest change I have noticed in my life
After knowing Jesus at a personal level, numerous changes took place in my life.
But the biggest change that I noticed in my life was the improved psychological well-being.
I was an extremely nervous child who would get stressed easily without any apparent
reason. But once I become closer to the Lord, my mind was calm and I could respond to
situations in a proper manner. The more I prayed, the more I felt that my mental health was
improving and I could focus on things better (Bible Verses Of Comfort For Persons With A
Mental Illness, N.D.).
Psalm 46:1-3 helped me a great deal. It stated that ‘God is our refuge and strength, a
very pleasant help in trouble.” The words helped me to calm my mind and rely on God in
the moments of stress and worries.
