Evangelism 101 D10

Part One: Method/Conversation Starter
The method of evangelism used was a twofold approach, the Romans road, and
Servant evangelism. The subject is a family member who is an atheist. The method I chose was
the Romans road and servant evangelism, because a relationship was established years ago.
Servant evangelism has been an ongoing for the past year. I have been helping my brother get
things set up to move back to the United States, and helping him obtain the needed visas and
sending money as needed. I have also been listening to him and gaining the necessary knowledge
to understand his situation. The conversation started over a phone call about how everyone was
doing. He and I normally talk about our schooling and I approached this with this class in mind.
The topic of salvation was approached by simply asking him where he stood in his belief in
Jesus. At this point it become clear that he was going to talk to me more than he has before. This
was a shock because normally he does a great job of shutting down the conversation very
quickly.
Part two: Reaction of unbeliever.
The reaction was inquisitive. He began asking questions like “why should I believe in
something not proven to exist.” This is where the Romans road walk began, and to lead into each
question along the way. Each question was met with a battery of questions asking to prove the
existence of Christ with physical proof. The next question was “Why would anyone want to save
me?” After explaining that Jesus loves everyone and that He died for each and every person I
again was told to give physical proof. After talking about how, why and what God did for each of
us, he was not to open to speaking with me further on the topic. This is the longest I have ever
managed to get him to talk to me about the subject. I have learned that although he may not be
ready to hear what Jesus can do for him, he will in fact engage me on the topic more now. He did

acknowledge that my beliefs have changed who I am. He also noted that whatever changed me
did so in a good manner.
Part three: Concluding the conversation in order to follow up.
The topic of salvation of my brother and other family members comes up often with him.
He is always open to speak of anything that could lend itself to a discussion. He was told that I
am always open to share with him the plan of salvation. He was also told that he is always
welcome to come to my church when he moves back to the States. The door to open a talk with
him on this will always be open. He knows that my mom accepted Christ before her death and
since then he has even brought the topic up. He will continue to receive all the love Christ can
give him through my family. My wife has also talked with his wife about salvation and invited
them to come visit us. My brother is like my father, constant love and seeing the changes God
has made in my life will hold more weight with him. My approach will be simple and show him
the love of Christ as my father sees each day.
